'Yeah, right.'
The 9 year old groaned as he listened to another more than likely promise to be broken. 

Haruki leaned back and glanced over at his brother who had been sitting in the corner, glaring at the man standing next to his mother. 

"Psst, Tata." Haruki whispered, glancing up before crawling over to his brother, "What do you think about him?" Tata asked his twin. "He's jus' like every other man." Haruki said with a slight lisp. Tata huffed in annoyance and grabbed his favorite glittery toy knife his mother gave to him, running up to the male that had seduced his beloved parent into falling in love with him, then jabbing the toy into his ankle, grunting at him. Haruki frowned and curled up in the corner, watching as everything played out.

And of course. The moment Tata threw a temper tantrum. The man left. 

"I'll love you and your kids."

"We've heard that one before." Tata said bluntly, earning a flick from Haruki, "Erm- Hello, sir. I'm Haruki.." The ten year old said with a big boxy smile, feeling the eye roll from his twin radiate behind him. "Just so you know, we don't approve of you."

A month later, that so-called step father left.

"They always leave... I want Appa not these strangers.." The ten year old cried. "We don't need a man, Haruki. We have mother." His brother stated as he wiped away his brother's tears.

"We don't need approval."
