"But live it like it's now or never! It's now or never!" Luke sighed as the last note of Now or Never rang out in their studio. He looked between Alex and Reggie who were smiling. Their smiles fell a little when they saw Luke's expression.
"What's wrong man? That was a great run through!" Reggie said with enthusiasm. He set his electric guitar down and walked towards the others. "No you're right. It was a good run through but we're missing something. But we're not missing Bobby because we still didn't sound right with him." Luke said, making Alex confused. "So do you think we need another member? Another rhythm guitarist?" He asked and Luke pondered the idea. "I'm not sure yet. But I do know that we need a new sound for the band if we're going to make it big."
Reggie set his bass down and starting moving up to the loft. "We could hold auditions. Ooooh maybe we could get someone who plays violin." Reggie said holding up a dusty black case that was shaped like a violin. Reggie started coughing from all the dust. "Yeah, we should focus on cleaning out the house and here before we start trying to find a new sound." Alex said.
A week ago they had their rhythm guitarist quit on them because he thought he would be better off as a solo artist. Previously they were living at his mansion but that changed when they started fighting. Luke, Alex, and Reggie weren't on good terms with their families either so they ultimately decided to move out. They found this house that apparently hadn't been lived in for 25 years and it was for a low price. Each of them chipped in with all the money they had earned playing gigs and five days ago they bought this house along with the studio. Because of school and band practice they hadn't gotten around to cleaning the 25 years worth of dust that was still lingering.
There were also a few instruments and other items that were stored up in the loft of the studio. A couple of acoustic guitars, the violin, multiple cases of CD's and old rock band posters, two trunks of old clothing and so much more that they hadn't started looking through yet. Reggie seemed to be looking through the pile of items before he pulled out one of the cases of CD's and came down the ladder.
"First step to cleaning is going through all this cool stuff." Reggie said. He set the case down on the coffee table and started emptying its contents. Alex and Luke gave each other a look before walking over to join their bassist. There were CD's from old bands like Rush, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, and others.
One CD in particular caught Luke's eye. It didn't have any cover art, just a clear box titled Wake Up in black marker. Luke grabbed it and read what it said on the back while Alex and Reggie's conversation fell on deaf ears. 'Thought you might want to remember this -XO Flynn'. He wondered who Flynn was and what was on this CD.
By now Alex and Reggie had fallen silent, watching Luke. "What's that?" Alex asked and Luke looked up at them. "I don't know. Wanna find out?" He asked, handing Reggie the CD. "Mysterious. I like it." He said, grinning. "I don't know, man. It seems kinda personal." Alex said, looking at the note on the back, over Reggie's shoulder. "Come on! What's life without a little adventure? Besides its not like anyone's gonna come back for this stuff. It's been 25 years." Reggie said, walking towards the radio that had a CD player. "Fine." Alex said, sighing. "Sweet. Hit play, Reg." Luke said, moving to sit on the couch. Reggie inserted the CD in the slot and hit play. Alex and Reggie joined Luke on the couch as the opening notes to a song starting playing.
Here's the one thing I want you to know
You got someplace to goIt was beautiful piano playing, but it was the voice that really made Luke listen closely. It sounded so angelic and full of emotion. The lyrics were well written too. The talent just seeped out of the song, it was amazing. Luke glanced over at his bandmates and their expression were just as intrigued as he felt.
