~Professor Oobleck’s History Class~

Oobleck: “…This is prior to the Faunus Rights Revolution, more popularly known as the Faunus War, human kind was quite adamant about centralizing Faunus population in Menagerie. Now, while this may seem like ancient history to many of you, it is imperative to remember that these are relatively recent events. Why, repercussions of the uprising can still be seen to this very day”

Kai always had trouble keeping up in this class. The obvious reason being, that Professor Oobleck kept darting up and down the class at super speed, fast-talking all the way. Whether that was because of his semblance, or the cup of coffee he was always sipping, no one really knew. Either way it was kind of hard to keep track of what he was saying when the source of the lecture changes positions every two or three seconds.

Oobleck: “Now, have any of you been subjugated or discriminated because of your Faunus heritage?”. A few students raised up their hands, and after some seconds, the rabbit Faunus girl from the cafeteria slowly raised up her hand too.

Oobleck: “Dreadful, simply dreadful. Remember students, it is exactly this kind of ignorance that breeds violence. I mean, just look at what happened to the White Fang. Now, which one of you young scallops can tell me what many theorists believe to be the turning point in the third year of the war?” Weiss shot up her hand from beside Kai, “The Battle at Fort Castle”

Oobleck: “Precisely! And, who can tell me the advantage the Faunus had over General Lagoon’s forces?”

Jaune: “Hey!”. Professor Oobleck immediately appeared before a very startled Jaune, “Mr. Arc! Finally contributing to class, excellent, excellent!” Kai narrowed his eyes at Cardin who was sitting directly behind Jaune. Jaune had been asleep so far during the class; there was no way he would have volunteered to answer that question. This was obviously Cardin’s doing.

Oobleck: “So, what is the answer?”

Jaune: “Uh, the, answer…the advantage…that the Faunus had…over that guy’s stuff…”, he glanced behind Oobleck at Pyrrah, who was giving him some sort of signal, gesturing to her eyes.

Jaune: “Uh, binoculars!”. The class erupted into laughter, Pyrrah face palmed, while Professor Oobleck calmly sipped his coffee, and zoomed behind his desk in front of the class, “Very funny Mr. Arc. Cardin! Maybe you would like to share your thoughts on the subject”

Cardin: “Tch, well, I know it’s a lot easier to train an animal than a soldier”

Kai: “Really Cardin?”

Pyrrah: “You’re not the most open minded of individuals are you Cardin?”

Cardin: “What? You got a problem?”

Pyrrah: “No. I have the answer. It’s night vision. Many Faunus are known to have nearly perfect sight in the dark”. Cardin grumbled to himself as Blake spoke up beside Pyrrah, “General Lagoon was inexperienced and made the mistake of trying to ambush the Faunus in their sleep. His massive army was outmatched and, the general was captured”, Blake then turned to Cardin, “Perhaps if he had paid attention in class, he wouldn’t be remembered as such a failure”. At that Cardin growled and got up from his seat, fists clenched.

Kai: “Touch them Cardin, and you’ll lose that arm” his eyes glowed menacingly. Cardin immediately paused.

Oobleck: “Mr. Blaze stand down. Mr. Winchester, please take your seat. You and Mr. Arc can both see me after class for additional readings. Moving on…”

After the class, Kai and Pyrrah waited behind for Jaune outside the classroom, while the rest left for their dorms. After a few minutes of waiting, a blur zoomed out of the class and down the hallway. Kai could only assume that was Professor Oobleck, moving to his office. Jaune trudged out shortly after, followed closely by Cardin, who suddenly shoved Jaune roughly, sending him to the floor. Kai growled, “Okay that’s it”.
