“Oh very funny Lindsey!” Stevie laughed nervously but he just stared blankly at her

“Honestly I don’t know who you are?” he answered honestly and watched Stevie’s face drop

“Linds, it’s me Stevie?” Stevie could feel tears building up

“Stevie who?” he sounded so confused and it was killing her

“Stevie, your wife Lindsey!”

“I don’t have a wife, you must be mistaken sorry, but I’m not and never have I been married” his words were just cutting her deeper

“Please...even if not me...please say you remember our children”

“If I don’t have a wife lady, I sure as hell wouldn’t have children!” he sounded almost insulted, Stevie let the tears fall now

“But, Linds we have two chil...”

“STOP! Honestly what part of I don’t have children do you not understand?”

Stevie jumped at his sudden shouting and bluntness

“Doctor please, why doesn’t he remember?” Stevie turned to the man who was giving her a sympathetic look

“It appears the accident has caused memory loss, it happens sometimes in the more severe cases of concussion”

“Will he get it back?” she couldn’t deal with her Lindsey not knowing her

“At this moment in time, I’m sorry but it’s really too early to tell...I understand how hard this must be” Stevie just laughed at him

“No I don’t think you do! Right now my husband doesn’t have a clue who I or our children are...so don’t you dare try and tell me you understand, because I can guarantee that you don’t!” Stevie sat in the chair and buried her face in her hands and cried, cried for herself, for Lindsey and for their two babies at home

“Apart from the obvious Mr Buckingham should be able to go home in a few days”

“Where do you...we...live?” Lindsey asked quietly and put a hand on Stevie’s shoulder

“About 20 minutes away” she replied without looking at him

“Okay, can you come and pick me up in a few days then please?” Stevie’s head shot up now

“What...you don’t want me to come back until then?” Stevie didn’t know when her voice became so broken, but it had

“Um, look I don’t know you, I just feel like it would be awkward otherwise, I’m sorry I really am!”

“Oh...okay, if that’s what you would like, I guess I’ll see you in a few days then” Stevie put on a smile, and bent down to hug Lindsey but he didn’t reciprocate it

Stevie left the hospital and pulled over on a small side road, where she sat and cried for at least another half hour, her heart was breaking and she couldn’t see a way to stop it

~

The few days past and Stevie went back to the hospital to pick up Lindsey, before they left she had spoken with the doctor who had told her everything that had happened over the past few days, unfortunately Lindsey showed no signs of his memory returning

When they pulled up to the house, Lindsey got out and grabbed his bag, that Stevie had dropped off at the hospital a few days before hand

Stevie unlocked the door and walked into the house, Lindsey followed her through

“If you give me your bag, do you want to go into the lounge area?” Stevie asked him

“Umm yeah, which way is it?” Stevie took his bag and pointed to where he needed to be going

After putting Lindsey’s bag upstairs she walked in to find him looking at all the picture frames that were around

“I guess I am married then!” he said as he turned the picture of them on their wedding day around so she could see

“Yeah you are, for 20 years now” she said as she held up her left hand so he could see the two rings on her finger

“You looked...beautiful” he told her, he looked at her and saw tears shining

“What did I say something wrong?” Stevie shook her head

“No it’s just that’s exactly what you said to me on that day” she smiled sadly

“Oh I’m sorry, would you umm....like a hug?” he asked her to which she nodded

Lindsey walked over to Stevie and put his arms around her, Stevie cried even more within his embrace, she knew it was her Lindsey, but she just didn’t feel like his Stevie anymore, she felt lonely again when he stepped back out of the embrace

“Thanks, feel much better now” she once again forced a smile, but she was dying inside

“You said there was children right?” he asked

“Yeah my mother is bringing them round anytime now, I...” she was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell

“No...I can’t...I don’t want to see them...please” Stevie span around at his comment

“What?” she asked again

“Please I don’t want to see your children” he was almost begging

“Their our children, and you cannot say things like that!” she just watched as Lindsey shook his head and walked away to step outside”
