Evelin: A New Dawn

The Empty Void

     Her eyes shot open with sharp gasp. As she awoke in cold sweat, she grasped at her neck, only to find that nothing was there. Her heavy breaths slowed as she realized it was only a dream. But she was still in the strange white place.

     Maybe she could find a way out? Everywhere she looked, however, it was just a seemingly endless void. She didn't think it was a good idea to stray too far away from her original place, in case she couldn't find her way back. So she sat. And waited. Waited for anything to happen at all.

     She didn't remember falling asleep, but she must have. Her dream consisted of a swirling black color, with a slight bit of dark grey. Usually this would be unsettling to see, but in her case it made her feel calmer. At least it was more peaceful than her previous dream. The black and gray swirled and shifted, never becoming still. Then after a while, she heard a voice. It was a bit muffled at first, so she couldn't make out what it was saying. But eventually, the voice became clearer.

A little earlier...

Diamond sifted through the papers he's written on about alternate dimensions, timelines, and other sorts or anomalies, and typed in a sequence on his keyboard to check on another potential anomaly, but before he could finish typing, an alert blared in his workshop. The voice of his AI assistant, Cap, rang throughout the room.

[WARNING: NEARBY ANOMALY STABILITY CRITICALLY LOW.]

"Nearby? That's rare. Run diagnostics, Cap."

[DIAGNOSTIC SCAN COMPLETE. ANOMALY STRUCTURE UNLIKE ANY PREVIOUSLY RECORDED ARCHETYPES. SCANS SHOW IT IS VOID-LIKE AREA WITH NO SIGNS OF PREVIOUS LIFE.]

Diamond takes a sip out of his bottle of purple glowing liquid.
"Another void, eh? Might as well let it collapse, I doubt there's anythi-"

Another alarm began to blare, and Cap speaks once more.
[WARNING: SOUL DETECTED. TRACE AMOUNTS OF DORMANT MAGIC INDICATE A LIVING BEING RESIDING IN THE COLLAPSING ANOMALY.]

Diamond spits out his drink.
"A WHAT?! Rerun scans, Cap!"

Cap takes a moment to process the scans, and replies.
[SCANS CONFIRMED. 1 LIVING BEING DETECTED WITHIN THE COLLAPSING ANOMALY. SENSORS SHOW A HUMANOID SHAPE WITH ABNORMAL SOUL TRAITS.]

Diamond starts frantically typing into his console, and after a few sequences are typed in, his portal opens. As it does, Cap speaks once more.

[THREAT ASSESSMENT: UNACCEPTABLE RISK. PROCEEDING INTO THE COLLAPSING ANOMALY IS SUICIDE.]

Diamond walks towards the portal.
"Sorry, Cap, but I ain't lettin' someone die like this."

Presently...

Diamond steps into the portal, appearing in the unstable anomaly. He looks around, and sees a figure, huddled up on the ground.
"HEY! Partner, can you hear me??"

The woman groggily awoke, pushing her glasses up to rub her eyes. She squinted, and saw a man standing before her.
"H...huh? What...?"

Her eyes widened. There was actually someone here-!!
"O-oh my god! Are you real-?! I haven't gone insane already have I-??"

She stood up and took a step back.
"Oh my god..."
Tears started to well up in her eyes.

Before Diamond questions what 'God' is or why she's worried about her sanity, he has to get her to safety. He shakes his head and continues:
"Listen, I know this is alot, but I'm here to get you outta this place. It's collapsing, and we don't have alot of-"
