I asked my mommy where we're going today, and why I had to wear a dress, but she wouldn't tell me. I asked Grandma and Grandpa and Auntie Dal and Auntie Maddie and I even tried to ask my daddy over the phone, but no one would tell me. That's not fair. Why are all the grown ups allowed to know where we're going but I'm not?

We pulled up to this really big building with lots of steps in front of it. I hope that we won't have to climb those because that looks like a lot and I don't like climbing up stairs. It takes too long and sometimes I have to use my breathy tube when I get to the top.

Mommy got me out of the car and fixed my dress for me. She didn't drive today. Her body guard, Max, drove us. I want to stay with Max since no one will tell me where we are. Max doesn't keep secrets from me.

Before we started walking up all those steps because it seemed to be the only way to get into the building, mommy bent down to my level and pushed all of my curls out of my face while smiling at me. Mommy has tried to smile lately, like real smiles, but they're not as real and as big as they used to be. But I didn't say anything to her about it because I didn't want her to get upset. Maybe she was playing pretend and she just wanted me to play along.

"Gabi, we're going into a very serious meeting, okay? And I need you on your best behavior. You're gonna sit with Grandpa and Grandma, yeah?" Mommy fixed my dress again and then she began to wipe invisible stains off of my face and I just wanted to push her off of me. Mommy must've been nervous because she always tries to fix things when she was nervous. But I didn't need fixing. If anyone needed fixing it was her.

"And if you're good, afterwards I'll take you to get ice cream and then we'll go to the mall, okay?" Now mommy was smiling big. I quickly nodded my head because shopping with mommy was the best thing in the entire world. And I didn't get to have ice cream unless daddy gave it to me because mommy says it's too messy and it's not good for me.

"Okay mommy!" I squealed, throwing my arms around her neck. I knew that she would pick me up and that's why I did it because there's no way I'm walking up all these steps by myself. I just hope that mommy doesn't trip and fall because her shoes are really high and if she falls it'll be all over for both of us.

"You know I love you, right baby?" We were halfway up the steps by now. I nodded against mommy's neck and moved my head so that it was resting on her chest instead, so that I could hear her heartbeat. Mommy's heartbeat was one of my most favoritest sounds in the entire world. It was like one of those lullabies that she sings to me before I go to sleep but with no words. And it always has the same beat. It never changes and it never stops.

We made it to the top of the stairs and mommy set me down and fixed my dress again. I wish she would stop doing that because there's nothing wrong with it. But she fixed her dress too and then combed her fingers through her hair. Mommy has the prettiest hair in the entire world. It's dark like mine and it almost touches her butt. I hope my hair is that long someday, because then I could do anything to it. Mommy usually let's me play in her hair but she never keeps the styles that I give her which is just rude because those take a lot of time.

"Gabi!" My grandparents got here before us and I don't know how. They're really slow so how did they climb up the stairs faster than us? I didn't say anything but still ran into their arms anyway because they always have candy and presents and I wanted some today.

"You look just like your momma!" I turned around and looked at my mommy who was talking to some woman with the tightest hair bun that I have ever seen. I wanted to be with my mommy but she looked busy so I stayed with grandpa and grandma.

"Let's go take our seats," grandpa suggested. I was set down on the ground again and I fixed my dress because that's what mommy would've done, and I followed after them. We entered this room that looks like the ones in the TV shows that mommy watches when she thinks I'm sleeping. There were rows of seats like pews in a church and we sat in the third row from the front. I looked around the room and spotted my daddy. I didn't know that he would be here too.
