"Ooh, Ooh, ooh, ooh! Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh!" Sophie said, as she tried to imitate a ghost. "Oh no, dear. It's more like a moaning sound. You know, ghosts tend to be very depressed creatures, anyway. Like this." Aggie then did a much better impression of a ghost. "Well, Mother, your visit's been very educational. But, it's time for bed." Gwen said. "Oh, Mom!" Marnie said. "She's right, your mother and I need
to talk about grownup things, anyway." Aggie said. "Can't you at least tell us a bedtime story?" Sophie asked. "Yeah, great idea!" You said. "Yeah!" Dylan said. Gwen gave him a look. "I mean, horrible idea." Dylan said. "Come on, Mom, please?" Marnie asked. "Please?" Sophie asked. "Well..." Gwen looked at everyone. "All right, but just one." Gwen said. "Yes!" You said. "See you upstairs, Grandma." You said. You and the others went upstairs. "You guys get ready for bed. We'll be right up." Gwen said.
"Oh, I missed them so. You know, dear, I've been thinking, I'd love to have you move back home, Gwen. I mean, there's plenty of room for all of you at my house." Aggie said. "Mother." Gwen said. "And since William's passed on, there's nothing to hold you here." Aggie said. "Nothing has to hold me here, Mother, I like being here, I can have a normal life here. They can have a normal life here." Gwen said. "Oh, being normal is vastly overrated." Aggie said. "Well, I like being normal." Gwen said. Aggie gave her a look. "You know, Mother, as much as I want the kids to know their family, the fact is, you're not normal." Gwen said. Aggie rolled her eyes. "Every time you come into this house, it's-it's chaos. And the candy and the decorations and the-" Aggie looked at her offended. Gwen sighs. "Mother, Mom. Let's not fight again. I know you're only here for a couple of hours. Go and tell them a story. Talk to them and get to know them. But on your honor, don't tell them about home, your home, I mean." Gwen said. "Oh, don't worry, dear. I won't tell them a thing." Aggie said. Gwen smiled. "Thank you."
Time Skip
You, Marnie, Sophie and Aggie were sitting on Marnie's bed. Dylan then comes by the door. "Just came by to check that everyone's got their thermostat set to 68 degrees, because it's important to conserve energy during the evening hours and-" "Dylan, just get in here." Marnie said. Dylan came in and sat on the bed. "Which story are you gonna tell us, Grandma? Is it one I know?" Sophie asked. "Oh, no, I wouldn't think so. My story is about a magical place, where many sorts of different creatures live together in peace." Aggie said. "Like Cleveland?" Dylan asked. You gave him a weird look. "I hear they have a nice school district." Dylan said. You rolled your eyes. "Well, actually, the place I'm speaking of is called Halloweentown. "And the residents are a bit more, exotic. Monsters, goblins, ghosts, vampires, gnomes and skeletons." Aggie said. "Do they have dybbuks and banshees there too?" You asked. Dylan rolled his eyes. "By the dozens. And of course, a few very fine witches." Aggie said. You and Marnie smiled.
"I don't like witches. They're mean and scary." Sophie said. "Oh, no, no, no, sweetheart. I mean, they're just like everyone else. Some are kind, some are mean. That's the way they use their magic. You can't tell what's in a monster's heart just by looking at 'em. I mean, sometimes, some of the slimiest, raunchiest, ugliest little monsters turn out to be the nicest." Aggie said. "I wanna go there!" Sophie said. "Oh." Aggie smiled. "Excuse me, but we have an impressionable young child here, I think we should make it clear that this place we're talking about is just pretend." Dylan said. "Oh, yes, yes. Well, actually, I have to confess that I didn't make it up, I read about it in a book. So you see, maybe it is real." Aggie said. "A book? What book?" Dylan asked. Aggie took out a book from her purse. You gasped. "There, Halloweentown." She said. "Let me see!" Marnie said. "All right." Aggie said as she opened the book.
"Look, a ghost. Just like we were playing, Grandma." Sophie said. She nodded. "Oh, look, and there's a werewolf and a vampire and a gnome." Marnie said. "Dog Man." Sophie said as she pointed at the picture. "Oh, Grandma, this book is so neat, It has, like, all the stuff I'm interested in." You said. "Great, the weirdo encyclopedia." Dylan said. You glared at him. "Ew, Snot Man." Sophie said. Sophie turned the page. "Look, it's Marnie!" She said. She looked at Aggie who nodded. Then she looked at the picture. "It is me." She said. Dylan then snatched the book away from her. "She doesn't look anything like you. She's way too cute." Dylan said. You snatched the book away. "Oh, yeah, and this is from a guy who could win an ugly contest." You said. Dylan glared at you. "Well, there is quite a resemblance. Perhaps Marnie has a secret life we don't know anything about. And maybe (Y/n) does too." Aggie said.
