Their conversation had stopped as soon as we entered.

Hanji smiled sheepishly, "Wow we really need to get some grease for that door aye?"

I was the only one who laughed with her, everyone else in the room remained silent.

Hanji shifted back and forth on her heels uncomfortably.

I took this opportunity to gaze around and evaluate the members in Erwin's office.

At the long, oak meeting table in the centre of the room, sat Commander Erwin and two men. From first glance, they appeared to be a captain, and a young cadet. They were both seated to the left of Erwin. The position of their bodies showed that they were previously engaged in a conversation before we had so rudely interrupted.

The blonde haired boy, who I assumed was the cadet, gave us a large smile as we entered. His bright blue eyes were filled with wonder as he sat quietly, waiting to be introduced to the new comers. His hair was shoulder length, accompanied by bangs which concealed his forehead.

The man beside him did not appear as bubbly.

His black hair flowed down to shield part of his eyes, in an effort to conceal the judgmental glances that he was sending our way. Those same grey eyes were piercing and intimidating. He had shook his head at Hanji's comment, the motion had shifted his hair to reveal a buzzed underneath. He emitted an aura that I couldn't identify, but the feeling set my senses on edge.

He was easily one of the most daunting men that I had ever come across, but I refused to allow his presence to have any affect on me.

"Hanji, Y/N, thank you so much for joining us." Commander Erwin smiled, waving his hand to invite us in.

We smiled back pleasantly, and took up the two seats on his right. Hanji sat closest to Erwin, while I sat next to her, across from other captain.

I snuck a glance at his face, curious to read him. But he simply sat there, his face unwavering and expressionless as he fixated his eyes on Erwin, not even noticing my gaze.

"Now that you are all present, let us begin!" Erwin started, "So, I have been analyzing this decision for a few weeks now, and I am ready to share it with all of you."

We all stared at him in equal uncertainty. It was clear that none of us knew about this "decision", but we listened eagerly.

"As you know Hanji, I have been looking into our students and cadets to see who presents the most potential for a future captain and should start shadowing immediately." Erwin continued. "And I have concluded that both Armin and Y/N fit that description. I-"

Hanji squealed in excitement and squeezed my arm, cutting off the Commander.

She faced me and almost yelled, "You get to shadow me! This is the best day ever!"

My mouth hung open as I tried to make sense of the Commander's words. I managed to smile back at her, still in shock.

A promotion was a big responsibility, and shadowing should not be taken lightly. Finally all of my hard work was paying off. The blood, sweat, and tears had amounted to something after all.

I gazed down at my hands, trying to hide my massive grin.

"Hanji, please let me finish." Commander Erwin sighed, pinching between his eyebrows with his thumb and index finger.

"Oh yes, of course sir." Hanji whispered, cowering further back into her chair.

"As I was saying, Armin. Your brain and strategies have benefitted your squad many times in the past, and have even helped me." Armin almost blushed in response to Erwin's compliments. "That is why I have decided that you deserve this promotion and an opportunity to become a Captain."

"Thank you so much sir, it is an honour and a privilege." Armin responded, looking fiercely into the Commander's eyes.

Erwin nodded once, then shifted his gaze to me.

"And Y/N. Along with being Hanji's second in command, your scores and recommendations from your overseer during cadet corps are glowing! He states that you are fierce, unyielding, and-"Erwin paused, squinting his eyes at the paper. "deadly? He wrote that your fighting skills are unmatched and your passion fuels your movements."

I had heard my feedback before, but hearing those words come out of Commander Erwin's mouth made them sound so much more impressive.

"Well, considering he said that he hasn't seen as good of a fighter as you in five years, I think your skills speak for themself." Erwin said, a kind smile was painted on his face.

"Tsk." The tiniest noise left the Captains mouth from across the table.

His face was screwed up in disbelief. His arms were crossed against his broad chest. He had remained utterly silent so far, but now jumped at the opportunity to scoff at my accomplishments.

"Those comments are clearly altered." The Captain continued. A look of disgust was now mixed with his previous look of disbelief. His grey eyes narrowed at me, as if plotting my demise right here.

Remembering the promise I had made to myself, I leaned forward towards the Captain, placing my elbows on the table.

"Oh believe me, they are all accurate. On what grounds are you making your assumptions of my expertise?" I sneered at him, then reclined back, clasping my hands behind my head. "I think you're just intimidated."

The captain let out the same "tsk" again, and rolled his eyes.

He responded, baring his teeth slightly "Listen very closely, if we weren't in the presence of the Commander right now I would b-"

"Enough." Erwin said, his voice booming. "Both Armin and Y/N will be shadowing you and Hanji. Your job is to guide and inform them. They will be with you every day for many hours, so you have to tolerate each other."

"Oh Commander, that's no problem. Y/N and I already have a very close bond, we are basically sisters." Hanji replied while smiling at me.

I returned her smiled and winked.

"I think you've miss understood Hanji. Armin will be shadowing you." Erwin responded, motioning his hand to wear Armin sat.

Both Hanji and I's mouths hung open in shock.

No, no, no. This is not happening. I told myself in denial.

"Y/N, you will be shadowing Captain Levi."

My jaw was basically on the floor by now.

I switched my gaze to the captain sitting across from me. He seemed just as surprised by the news as I was, but kept his composure quite nicely.

"Wait a second." I started, continuing to gape at the man across from me. "You're Captain Levi?"

I had always heard stories about Levi. He was immensely skilled and was merciless, both with titans and people. His kill count was through the roof and his squad was one of the most elite. The other girls in Hanji's squad had always whispered about the Captain, saying how he was ill-mannered but devilishly handsome at the same time. Now that I was in his presence, I couldn't see the appeal.

Levi Ackerman, also known as humanity's strongest solider, was feared and envied by many.

And now, he was sitting across from me, starring daggers.

Levi sighed in boredom and replied, "The one and only."
