Chapter 28

Boxing Day 2008

Amelia opened her eyes aware of two things, one her nose was almost frozen to ice, and two that she was curled up against Sol’s naked chest. Her mind went into overtime at the thought as she tried to work out all that had happened the previous day...and night.  It was the best Christmas she could remember, despite the lack of decorations, gifts or even a tree. Yesterday...she sighed, yesterday had been wonderful, her and Sol together and it was just as though the last ten years hadn’t happened. They’d talked, laughed, teased and even gossiped, and she’d never felt closer to someone.

Then she thought about the afternoon, the revelations, the transition from rekindling their friendship to...Amelia sighed again, yep even that had been perfect. She’d not imagined that happening when they’d left London together, but through the day time her doubts had seemed to disappear, and it had been the most natural thing when it happened. And boy did it happen...there was literally no stone unturned, they’d explored, touched and loved each more than she’d ever thought possible.

And now? Wriggling she felt his legs twitch and before she could register he was waking, Sol had wrapped his legs around her and secured her close to him. Looking up from her position against his chest, she saw him smiling sleepily.

“I had to take immediate action! I thought you were about to run away...”he kissed her lips in a lazy, loving way, his soft lips moulding over hers and claiming all conscious thought. “But there’s no way that’s happening. If nothing else it’s too cold!”

Smiling she looked up at him knowing he was right, “it was my first thought! I did almost get up and run away!”

He laughed, “I knew it! You don’t regret it do you?” He tried to prop himself on an elbow, to look down at her, but her warm hands travelled under the pile of duvets he’d pulled over them as the fire had died down the previous night and halted any actions. He gasped as her small but insistent hands moved around his waist and held him close.

“How can I regret something that was so...” words failed her but Sol seemed to relax, and with that came his options.

“Perfect? Inevitable?” kissing her forehead he groaned, “we should’ve waited, sorted everything out. I should have romanced you, wined you, dined you...but yesterday was just like an ever growing torture!” Tilting her chin, forcing her to look at him he half smiled, “there isn’t a day that’s gone by since I left here that I haven’t thought about you, wanted to be with you. Even when I thought I hated you, I couldn’t get you out of there.” He tapped his head as if to stress the point. “I’m sorry that I couldn’t wait, couldn’t make this perfect. But I’m not sorry it happened Meals, and don’t ever doubt that.”

She smiled, “neither am I, sorry that is. You’re all I ever wanted Sol.” The comment ended quietly as the honest confession shocked her.

Sol however grinned from ear to ear, “I am? Well that’s great news Meals, as I love you and I have NO intention of losing you again!”

She pffed, “you don’t have to say things like that, I’m here aren’t I?”

Sol rolled to lie over her, their naked bodies pressed together, “I can assure you that this is not pillow talk. You know that!” He glanced towards the fire, “I need to restart that fire before we both freeze to death.”

Amelia laughed, wrapping her legs around his waist, “you sure you want to do that now?” As he nodded she started to wriggle, pressing various parts of her body against the equivalent parts of his.
