After a few minutes of searching, the trio finally found the hall for the entrance ceremony, and as they walked through the doors, Kai, Ruby, and Jaune marveled at the wide open area filled with students who were loitering around, chit chatting, bragging, and ultimately just waiting for the ceremony to begin.
Kai: “Well that’s the last time I take directions from you Jaune. If I ever become a pirate captain, remind me to never make you my navigator”
Jaune: “Well it’s not my fault, that map was super confusing”
Ruby: “Jaune it literally had a compass guide in it”, she shook her head, “you’re just hopeless”
???: “Ruby! Over here!” The pretty blonde girl Kai saw with Ruby on the ship was calling out to her from the crowd, “I saved you a spot”
Ruby’s silver eyes visibly lit up, along with the rest of her face. She turned to the guys, “Hey sorry I gotta go, see you after the ceremony”, and then she ran off.
Jaune: "Hey wait”, but she already left. “Great where am I supposed to find another nice quirky girl to talk to?” Speaking of girls, Kai spotted a familiar lock of red hair just behind Jaune.
Kai: “Yeah I gotta go too. Later man” and he made a beeline for Pyrrah, much to Jaune’s disappointment. "Aww not you too", he threw his hands up in defeat, "now how do I survive?"
Pyrrah: "Hey Kai, you liking the school yet?"
Kai: "Well it’s definitely something alright, let’s just say I got a little…sidetracked"
Pyrrah: “So”, she gestured to Jaune who was awkwardly trying to blend into the crowd, “who’s your friend? Wait, isn’t that the guy who puked on the airship?”
Kai: “Yup, Vomit boy in the flesh. But don’t call him that though, he’s a little bit sensitive on that particular issue”. Kai turned to find Pyrrah staring at Jaune, “Uh, you alright Nikos?” Pyrrah seemed to snap out of it, “Huh, yeah I’m alright, why do you ask that?” Kai just decided to drop the matter, “No particular reason, just checking”. Just then the microphone came on, and Kai looked at the stage to see a silver haired man, bearing spectacles, speak into it. A silver haired man Kai knew as Professor Ozpin.
Ozpin: “I’ll keep this brief. You’ve travelled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you’re finished you will then dedicate your lives to the protection of the people. When I look amongst you, all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far, it is you who must take the first step.” Next Glynda, who was next to Ozpin spoke, “You will gather to bond tonight, tomorrow your initiation begins. Be ready. You’re dismissed.”
Kai glared at Ozpin throughout the speech. Pyrrah noticed this and asked, “Kai is everything alright?” Kai sighed, “Honestly? No not really. I’ll catch you later Pyrrah”, and with that he walked away quickly as the students began to disperse.
~Outside the building, near the Beacon Tower~
As Ozpin and Glynda approached the Beacon Tower to go up to his office, Ozpin stopped and said loudly, “Are you just going to hide there, or didn’t you come to talk?”. On cue, Kai emerged from his hiding spot behind a wall, a scowl on his face. Glynda immediately took a defensive stance but Ozpin beckoned her to stand down.
Ozpin smiled, “Well Master Blaze? How do you like Beacon so far?” In response Kai simply said, “I’m not supposed to be here”.
Ozpin: “Whatever do you mean? You are of the appropriate age and have the talent to…”
