Regardless of his sudden doubts and regardless of Jimin's dislike of the tenacious young woman he was going to stand by her....he was going to protect her.
He just needed to get to the bottom of why.
Taehyung stared at his reflection, eyes lingering on the dark circles beneath them.
"Get your shit together Tae, now isn't the time to lose your composure." He allowed himself several minutes of respite, filling his lungs and exhaling slowly before heading back down the hallway to Y/N.
It was as he neared the door, troubling thoughts still racing through his head that a sharp searing hot pain shot up his spine and exploded behind his eyes.
"Ugh, fuck....what the hell." He stumbled, the hallway twisting and turning before him.
What the fuck was happening?
He could barely keep his balance.
The pain relentless, wave after wave of it.
Taehyung was good with pain, nothing much scared him either but this....he had never experienced anything like it.
He reached out desperate for something to steady him but it was too late....his eyes rolled back and darkness claimed him.
Flashback.
"Are they aware of their surroundings?" The company liaison queried, brow furrowed as her dark eyes swept across the lower level.
"It's called torpor, basically it's a process that resembles hibernation. Scientists and engineers collaborating with NASA began development for a suspended animation project around ten years ago. Instead of being frozen in time, though, the scientists wanted to find a way the subject could be knocked out for weeks or months." The project head and lead scientist forced a smile, he hated visits like this and didn't understand why the organisation insisted on sending the liaison out in the first place.
He knew what he was doing.
He was the one who had the knowledge.
He was the one who made torpor a reality.
The scientists back in the States came up with the idea but it was his work that finally developed the technology.
They couldn't get it to work.
They nearly abandoned the research, said it was impossible.
It only took him six months to prove them wrong.
Yes, some would argue that it was the organisations advanced technology that assisted him in succeeding but without his knowledge this would never have been possible.
