Chapter 23: Scorned

“Nothing like a scorned lover to scorch the Earth.” –Georgina Sparks, Gossip Girl.

The twenty fifth of December was a challenging day. It had been exactly a month from the day I had gotten the message from Enchantress and I had been living in New York for the past week.

Holiday cheer was everywhere and I was rugged up in my black jeans, camisole and scarf. My boots were lined with wool but since it had started snowing, the snow had begun to melt in my shoes and cause my toes to freeze.

Wind slapped my raw red cheeks and my scarf found its way out from behind the waterproof, green jacket I was wearing, flapping in the freezing breeze.

New York City on Christmas Day was a million people sharing a broken silence. I sat on a park bench, waiting until I could cross the busy, clogged up streets. I could feel my pants dampening as the snow melted beneath my butt and I finally decided that I was going to get up and move.

I moved in the mob of people as if I was a piece of seaweed being pushed along by currents in the ocean.

I subtly looked around for any signs of Enchantress. I had a picture of her in my pocket a long with a picture of an Asgardian by the name of Lady Sif.

Thor had managed to settle me down substantially, sitting with me in my room, explaining very carefully what I had to do.

When he was finished I only had one question for him.

“What happens if they grow suspicious? If they discover your plans?” I was shaking in fear, if someone put a glass of water in my hand now, I would have spilled and splashed it everywhere.
Thor thought carefully for a moment before grabbing the book we’d been looking threw when I’d figured out Enchantress’ plan. He opened it up to a specific page and ripped it out.

“Her name is Lady Sif.” Thor pointed to a strikingly beautiful woman with long brown hair and heavy silver armour. “She’s a friend. Find her and the Warriors Three shouldn’t be too far away. Tell her you’re from Midgard, and that you’re a friend of mine. She will help you, possibly even be able to contact me.”

I shook my head from the memory and leaned against the wall of the Stark Building. I made sure no one I knew looked at me, or even took a glance in my direction. The only person who walked passed me was Happy, though.

“So,” I heard a high pitched, melodic voice standing just to the right of me. I didn’t dare look to whoever was speaking. “This is what Richard was bantering on about all these months. The infamous Vibra-Light.”
My head snapped up. I had only heard that name once before.
“What is the Vibra-Light?” I asked, to no one in particular.
“Oh, don’t you know honey?” The voice asked and I shook my head, “You’re famous.”

I frowned. Why would I be famous? Why would I be the Vibra-Light –what was that supposed to mean anyway?

“Enchantress, I take it?” I glanced at her.
“In the mortal flesh.” She nodded.

Just like in the picture she had long blonde hair and big green eyes; she was dressed in mostly green and monochrome tones. She was very beautiful.

“So, why did you request an audience with me?” She asked, her tone was cold and calculating.
I shrugged and pushed off the wall. “Simple. I’m bored of being good. I want to be bad.”
Enchantress shook her head and smiled wickedly, “You really expect that I’m going to believe that? How do I know you’re not just here to arrest me?”

I sighed. “I never wanted to be a part of Director Fury’s super secret boy band. I was forced into it. I fell in love with the Iron Man, thought that he was something special. That’s why I stayed with them for as long as I did. But he ended things.”

The Asgardian sorceress pursed her lips thoughtfully and shifted her weight. “I, too, loved someone.”
I nodded, “I know. It’s in the stories I’ve read about you.”

“Those stupid humans, they documented my pain. How typical.” She spat.
“I know. I can only hope they don’t document mine.” I agreed.

And then, Enchantress took a hold of my left arm in a tight grip and said nine words that changed the course of my life:
“Nothing like a scorned lover to scorch the Earth.”

And I was pulled in a black hole as I caught a glimpse of Tony exiting his office. I gave him one last smile and crudely blew him a kiss as he stared, dumbfounded before I disappeared from his world completely.

Author's Note: AND THAT MARKS THE END OF METALLIC HEARTS.

Oh, my god. I can't believe I just said that. That's actually kind of amazing. I've finished 2 books in a year. Pretty much in a six month period. Holy crap!

I just want to thank anyone and everyone who has taken the time to read this series! I did not expect to get this kind of response from people, but I have and it's all because of you guys!

Specifically, I wanna thank Watson for being my editor and putting up with my stress-crazed rants, and also editing every chapter willingly -even though I can be annoyingly pushy sometimes! And for also being my inspiration for Skylar Evans <3
Also, thanks to @Jourpleberry for being my inspiration for Starlie Banner <3.

What did you guys think of the ending?

I'm not sure when Metallic Lights will begin to be posted, but it will probably be before the end of 2012! I'm posting a Metallic Charms Xmas One-shot, so the release date for ML will probably be announced when that is posted -or I'll just send a message to all fans :D

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!

Until next time; comment, vote, like!
