Jeremy awoke the next morning with an uneasy feeling in his stomach. He felt almost on edge, and seemingly cautious about everything around him. Mike noticed this as well.
"Jeremy? You alright?" He asked, when the younger male flinched as the toast had popped out of the toaster, "O-Of course I'm alright. I j-just...I don't really know actually." He replied, taking a butter knife out of a draw.
Mike eyed him suspiciously, as he sipped a cup of coffee with one hand, and a newspaper in the other. "Did you not sleep well or somethin'?"
"No, I slept f-fine. I guess I just d-didn't have the best start to the day for some r-reason." He stated, spreading butter onto the toast. Although Mike trusted Jeremy now, other than the exception of his "outbursts", he didn't believe he was fine for one minute.
"You sure? You just seem really tense and-"
Jeremy slammed the knife back on the counter. "Mike I said I'm fine."
It was quiet for a few seconds, only the sound of Jeremy heavily breathing and the clock in the lounge room was heard throughout the apartment. Jeremy then sighed and picked the piece of toast up from his plate and began to walk out of he kitchen.
"Sorry." He muttered before walking towards the lounge room. "Jeremy, come back." Mike said, putting down the paper and mug and walking towards him. "I think I'm going for a walk." Jeremy said, walking towards the door.
"Fine. Then I'm coming with you." Mike said sternly, walking straight up to Jeremy, grabbing his wrist. Paranoia suddenly overtook him as he tried to escape Mike's grip. "Let go of me! Aren't I allowed to be by myself for once?!"
"I never said that! I just said I was coming with you!" Jeremy eventually shook free of Mike's grasp and opened the front door. "I don't need you following me everywhere." He stepped outside, leaving the door wide open, and stood frozen at the entrance.
Mike felt a small pang to his emotions, seeing Jeremy in such a conflicted state. "Jeremy...I just-"
"Please come with me."
The air fell quiet.
Mike sighed and looked towards the back of Jeremy's head. His expression fell into a soft smirk. "Sure."
~~
A crisp breeze blew across both of their faces, as they walked along the side path. Other than the few cars passing by every so often, it was a peaceful atmosphere.
Jeremy and Mike almost immediately forgot about the previous argument, and found themselves a casual conversation about each other.
"I don't won't to go too deep into it if it's a sensitive topic, but...you must be a pretty strong person to be able to go through something like this. I mean, having to deal with sudden "outbursts" as well as your own life. Heck, it's actually pretty amazing!"
Jeremy had his hands in his pockets and was staring down at the ground, and he felt heat slowly rise to cheeks after hearing Mike say that. "It's n-nothing, seriously. I'm not a-anything special."
"Well I think otherwise!" Mike stopped walking and gripped Jeremy by the shoulders. "People have been underestimating you all your life, and I have no idea why."
Jeremy's face was now an obvious deep shade of red, as Mike realised how close the two were now. He let go of Jeremy's shoulders and continued walking. He felt proud of himself, saying those things to the younger male.
Jeremy quickly caught up with Mike, and they continued walking in silence for a while. "You really are amazing, Jeremy." Mike whispered, as a gentle breeze blew past.
