I can't believe I'm a mom now. This is so surreal.
After Blake cut the umbilical cord, the nurse cleaned her up a little, then handed her to me. As soon as I got her in my arms, I got teary-eyed.
"You did it," Blake whispered to me, making me smile.
About two minutes later, the nurse took her so they could weigh her, get her name and all that stuff. While they did that, I was transferred from the delivery room to a regular room.
As I sat there, I started thinking about what name Blake picked. I know I said "no" to Brielle but now that I think about it, I like it.
I was soon brought out of my thoughts when the nurse came in with Blake behind her. She handed me the baby, and I got emotional all over again.
"She's seven pounds, ten ounces and twenty-one inches," Blake said, smiling down at her.
"Twenty-one inches? Oh God, my child is gonna be taller than me!"
"Briana, calm down," he chuckled, "she just came into the world five minutes ago."
"Right," I said, "Did you pick a name?"
"I did. Meet Beulah Leellen Griffin."
He started laughing hysterically, then kissed my temple. "I'm just kidding, babe. I decided to go with Brielle Sierra."
"That's cute! Where'd Sierra come from?" I asked, looking down at the yawning baby.
"Your mom told me that you and your cousin made a deal to name your first daughters after each other."
There was a light knock on the door and shortly after, my mom, Gail, Brynn & the boys walked in. As soon as our moms saw Brielle, their eyes watered. Blake handed her to his mom and everyone else crowded around her to get a better look.
Blake picked Ford up and my mom picked KJ up so they could see her and they literally said "aww" at the same time.
"Ford, KJ, this is your little sister, Brielle," Blake said.
"Nooo Daddy. Her name is sister," Ford corrected him, making everyone laugh, "hi sister!"
He kissed her forehead and I started crying because it was the cutest thing I've ever seen.
"We have a surprise for you two," Gail said, setting Brielle in the crib-like contraption next to the bed.
Everyone, except Ford & KJ, walked out and a few seconds later, our dads, brothers, Marieka, Kayla & Ryder came in.
"What are y'all doing here? I thought y'all weren't coming for a few more days," I said, giving everyone a hug.
"Your mom said she had this feeling you would give birth any day now, so we decided to come early."
I smiled and wiped the tears that were constantly flowing from my eyes. I was just happy that our dads & my brothers made it.
"Oh. Happy birthday, man," I said to Darrell, "sorry you have to share your birthday now."
"I'm glad I get to share a birthday with my niece," he said, looking down at her.
"There are four other people that want to see you guys, so we're gonna leave so they can come in," Tommy said.
He & my dad gave me a hug, then walked out. I thought about who these four people were until they walked. I almost jumped off the bed to hug them, Blake pushed me back down.
"Bri!!!" Monique & Jordan squealed, rushing over to the bed.
DJ & Deshawn dapped up Blake and then walked over to the bed to give me hugs.
"I almost thought y'all weren't coming," I said, wiping my eyes again.
God, I can't wait 'til this emotional shit is over.
"You know we wouldn't have missed this," Deshawn said.
I smiled as Monique walked over to Brielle and picked her up.
"She's so cute," she whispered.
Jordan walked over to see her and she gasped as her eyes watered. "Oh my God. She's actually cute."
"Were you expecting her to be ugly?" Deshawn asked.
"No! You know when babies first get here they look funny, but she's so cute," she said.
"Jordan, that made no sense," Deshawn said.
I subtly laughed at the two of them before breaking up the little argument, "don't worry, Jordan. I know what you mean."
She smiled & nodded before turning her attention back to the baby.
I sat back and watched my best friends & fiancé gush over the baby, and my future stepson & godson play around on the couch. I tiredly smiled to myself as I thought about how perfect today has been.
