I sat down at the dinner table, waiting patiently for what my family has to say. The fresh pungent smell of organic green tea filled my nose as I breathed the ineffable scent. I sighed in content before pouring everyone a cup of tea.

My mother sent me a grateful smile while my father just looked at me with that unreadable expression of his. I stared down at my connected hands rested on my lap, waiting for what was about to come.

"What was the thing the emperor offered," Xiu, my ever so curious sister pried.

I looked around me as curiosity shone on all the facial features of my family.

"He offered me the position as a royal guard," I replied, taking a sip of the green tea.

It was as if my father's eyes were about to fall right of his sockets. He took an involuntary gulp as he looked at me with a serious expression.

"Mulan, this is a great honor for our family," He began. "You should accept it, especially when he sent Commander Tung to tell us that the offer still stands."

I fidget with my red suit which I have not to change out of and looked at my father with an equally serious expression.

"With Xiu matched, who will take care of you and mother?" I asked, worry creeping into my tone.

He merely waved a hand in dismissal. "Don't worry about us. This is a great honor and it's not as if Xiu is going anywhere soon." I saw my sister bite her lip as a flash of rage simmered in her eyes before it was gone. I stared curiously at her before deciding to speak to her in private about it later. I cleared my throat.

Before I could speak, the last person in the world who I would have thought, slammed her cup of tea on the table and spoke in an angry voice, " For heavens sake, she's been away from home for a long period of time and you want to send her back?"

My mother's rageful cry left us all silent. I bit my lip in anticipation.

"I am old enough to make my own decisions," I spoke quietly but firmly. I stood up, losing my appetite. "Excuse me but I would like to go for a walk."

I went to the familiar place where I seeked comfort. The place where I first started training. The place with the long grass.

I sighed. Who knew this could put so much stress into you? I raised my right hand, the sun blazing down on half of my palm. The warmth of his fingers still lingered like the melted water of snow passed its season. I needed at least 2 months here. Unfortunately, deep down I knew that I could stay here for at most, a month. A lot of disasters may occur within a short period of time and I need to be prepared; to protect the emperor and to protect my comrades.

Not long after, I met Xiu's match. He was a pretty thin lad with a handsome masculine face. Seeing them from afar filled my heart with unbearable longing at their happy faces. I didn't want to be matched so why is there a heavy stone weighing down my heart?

Minutes turned into hours that turned into days as time flew by in the knick of a time. Soon, I was packing my bag to the imperial city, including my new sword. I got up on my horse, looking now at my family who watched with a sad expression on their faces. I smiled in comfort and gave them a wave as I urged my horse forward and galloped off into the distance.

It took 3 days in which I ate 2 meals a day. By meal, I meant a loaf of bread and water and my two I mean 1 and another break a bath and a drink of water.

The faces of elegant ladies greeted me as I entered the familiar looking palace. Some stared at me in awe, some in respect, but some also looked down with a haughty expression on their face.

The familiar lady who presented me to the emperor beckoned me forward and together we enter the palace. The emperor, who was seated on the throne gave me a smile. His second, gave me a nod of acknowledgement.

Cricket, turned around and gave me wave. The person next to him turned around as well, revealing a familiar handsome face.

Honghui.

Guys, I wrote this in school. Shhh😋
