A knock sounds from outside Courtney's bedroom door, before Niall walks in with an odd expression on his face. "Erm Courtney..could you come downstairs for a second?" His eyes flicker to me then back to Courtney.
"Yeah, sure." She looks at me and pats my shoulder before getting up. I wipe at my tear soaked cheeks, trying to dry them just as I hear Courtney gasp. I look up and she's standing in the doorway, with her back to me. "Oh no! There is no way in hell that you are going near her!" She yells and my heart sinks as I hear Harry's voice.
"I just need to talk to her." He says, his voice is raspy.
Courtney's hand goes back and a loud smacking sound follows. She slapped Harry. "Why? So you can hurt her even more? I don't think so." Niall pulls on her arm.
"Courtney let him talk to her, I will explain downstairs." His eyes are pleading and she sighs.
"Fine." She mumbles. With one last angry glare at Harry she turns and walks away with Niall.
Harry walks into the room shutting the door behind him. I take a big breath. No. I'm not mentally prepared for whatever he has to say to me. I'm sure it's going to be bad. He sighs and runs his hand through his hair as he walks over to the bed, taking a seat to close to me. So I scoot over to get as much space between us as possible. His harsh words from this morning replay in my mind.
Last night was nothing. It meant nothing.
Do you actually think I would be with a mortal like you?
I cringe at the memory. He looks at me but I don't meet his gaze. Instead I stare at the floor.
I look at her but she won't meet my gaze. Instead she stares at the floor as if it's the most interesting thing she's ever seen. Her eyes are red and puffy from crying and her cheeks are red as well. I feel like such an asshole for doing this to her.
"Skye." I manage to say although it comes out like a whisper. She still doesn't look at me. "Skye, please look at me." I reach out to grab her hand but she pulls away.
I rub my eyes and think of a way to explain why I did what I did. "Skye-".
"What Harry?" She spins around. Her eyes are full of anger and pain. "What do you want? Don't you think you have done enough?" Her voice cracks at the end and my heart aches.
"Skye just listen to me please. Let me explain." I beg.
"No, you don't need to explain. I understand you-"
"Skye just listen to me!" I cut her off and she press's her lips in a tight line. I pinch the bridge of my nose. "What happened this morning, I did it because I had no choice. If I didn't break things off with you, something much more worse than this could have happened to you. And I would rather have you furious at me then you dead." Her eyes widen.
"What do you mean...dead?" Her voice shakes.
"Zayn called me before you came downstairs this morning and he said that the other vampire clan knows we have something going on. They don't like us having any type of relations with mortals because that's what they feed on. I had to end whatever we started before you got hurt. I'm so sorry I did it in the most horrible way." I look deep into her blue eyes, refusing to break eye contact.
"So...so we can't be together?" Her eyes sadden even more.
"Yes, I'm afraid not." I lean over and wipe a tear away from her cheek. "Do you forgive me?"
"Only because you did it to protect me." She moves closer to me.
"I would never intentionally hurt you." I look to her pouted lips and it takes every ounce of control in me to not kiss them. I hadn't even realized our faces were inches apart before the door swings open.
