In the last ten minutes alone I must have put on at least 10 pounds. Me, Leanne and Jenna were standing in the corner of the living room stuffing our faces with chocolate cake while the mum crew and their kids ran around at our feet.
If I get asked once more which ones mine I’m gonna scream - I mean do I look like I have a kid? Really?
I’m far too selfish for a kid right now, I’d prefer to spend all my hard earned cash on clothes rather than nappies thank you very much.
“I’m so happy you’re here,” Amy said as she finally came over and realised that we were here.
“Course we’re here,” Jenna said as I choked on my cake.
“Yeah wouldn’t miss it for the world,” I told her through my choking fit which made Amy laugh.
“Well seriously thank you I don’t know how much more I can stand off them,” Amy told us, staring at a group of stuck up women standing in the middle of the room holding onto their husbands and exchanging tips on how to raise kids.
“I thought they were your new friends,” Leanne asked.
“Yeah right, do you really see us as bff’s,” Amy replied sarcastically.
“Good, we thought we’d been replaced,” Jenna joked.
“If I was gonna replace you lot I’d find someone better than them,” Amy laughed back as they gave us a dirty look, obviously we were laughing too loud.
“Like you could ever replace us,” Leanne lowered her voice slightly.
“What after you got her that drum kit, I’m pretty sure I could,” Amy retorted back.
Hey, we didn’t get it to piss Amy off, that was just a bonus.
“Please, you love it,” I teased.
“You’re kidding right?” she asked and I just smiled.
“Ok, well I’m gonna need to go and speak to them or I’ll be on there most wanted list for the next year, but thanks guys,” Amy sighed dramatically.
“Have fun,” Jenna joked as Amy walked away, and she turned back around to roll her eyes at us.
“Well I think it’s time to bail,” I told them.
I mean I’d made an appearance right, and it’s not like Madison even noticed we were here with all her little mates running around to play with.
“Yeah I’m with you,” Leanne agreed.
“Ok, we’ll just go and say our byes then I’ll drop you both off,” Jenna said.
“Oi monster, are you not speaking,” I said, grabbing Madison as she ran past and picking her up.
“Auntie Emma,” she squealed, giggling away.
“Happy birthday princess,” I said, smiling at her before spinning her around.
I maybe shouldn’t have done that - I think I’m more dizzy than her.
“I’m three today,” she told me.
“Yeah I know you’re a big girl now eh,” I joked.
“Yeah,” Madison said, a proud smile plastered on her face.
“My turn Emma,” Leanne said, holding her hands out.
“Noo,” Madison shrieked, hyper off all the sweets she’d been stuffing her face with since we’d walked in. no more chocolate cake for her then. With her blonde hair and blue eyes, she was the absolute spitting of her mum.
“Yep,” Leanne laughed, as I gave Madison a kiss on the head and passed her over.
After we said our byes and picked up our goodie bags (gotta love Amy), Jenna dropped us off at mine and they both followed me in, deciding on a girls day I guess.
“So, what should I wear?” I asked.
We were sitting on my bed, staring into my open wardrobe with no idea what to shove on tonight. To be honest, I couldn’t really be assed but there was no backing out now unfortunately.
“How about this?” Jenna said, picking out a black and red strapless dress.
“With what?” I wondered. Hey, why stress when you can get your mates to pick the oufit?
“Hmm, you’ve got these black shoes,” she told me, holding up a pair of platforms.
“Eww no what the hell possessed you to get those?” Leanne stated in disgust.
“I never,” I snapped defensively. “My mum got them for me for Christmas last year.”
“Next time tell her to get you a voucher,” Leanne told me.
“What so are these a no?” Jenna interrupted.
Me and Leanne looked at each other before saying “No!”
“What time am I meeting him again?” I asked Jenna.
“Eight, so you’ll need to quicken the pace if you wanna be on time,” Jenna responded, digging further in my wardrobe to find a decent pair of shoes. She had better be careful, she might get lost in there.
“Don’t sweat it, we’ll have you ready on time,” Leanne whispered to me.
“So what are you guys doing tonight?” I asked them. All day, we’d just sat in my house watching crappy daytime telly and eating a fat man’s weight in food.
“Throwing a party in here, so you want to move it so we can sneak the DJ in,” Leanne joked, while Jenna poked her head out the wardrobe with a confused look on her face.
Leanne took this opportunity to snap a picture of Jenna on her phone, on her hands and knees with her ass in the air.
“Ahh, this is so going on face book,” Leanne laughed.
“I swear to god you better not Leanne,” Jenna hissed, narrowing her eyes.
“Yeah well it is and just for that I’m gonna tag you in it so everyone can see,” Leanne said winding her up even more, even though I know she’ll not…well maybe?
“I hate you sometimes,” Jenna muttered.
“Love you too babe,” Leanne stated.
“Guys, not helping here,” I said loudly.
“You’re not having second thoughts are you?” Jenna asked, turning around and sitting on the floor below with her legs crossed.
Not second thoughts, try third fourth and fifth.
“Emma, you can’t bottle it,” Leanne told me. “Suck it up and grow a pair.”
“Wow Leanne, thanks for the pep talk,” I snapped at her, running my hands through my hair.
She shrugged her shoulders and leaned back on her hands. I don’t even know why I was getting nervous, but you know what it’s like. What if the guy was a weirdo? It’s the whole ‘never met him in my life’ thing that had me freaking out - although I think I might have spoke to him on the phone last night…not sure.
“I know what you need,” Jenna exclaimed, pushing herself off the floor excitedly.
“Dutch courage,” I stated.
“Exactly,” she said with a smirk, before running out the room, and coming back through a couple minutes later with three glasses and a bottle of wine balanced in her hand.
“Where’d you find that?” I asked curiously, while Leanne sat up with a big grin on her face.
“I seen it earlier when I was raiding your cupboard for food,” Jenna replied, sitting back down on the floor and pouring out the glasses.
How could I have drink in the house and not even notice - bad Emma.
I accepted my glass and tried to swig it back, but let me tell you that was not the nicest drink out there so I ended up having to sip it.
“Ok, Let’s get you ready,” Leanne stated, an evil grin on her face.
Fake tan - Done. Hair - Done. Nails - Done. Make-up - Done. Outfit - Done.
I was pretty much ready and feeling much more confident, but thankfully not pissed. I don’t think that would make a good impression somehow - me staggering in with a slurred ‘hiiii.’ Yeah, I think that would have him running for the hills.
“Ok, now remember to eat with your mouth closed,” Leanne joked.
“Obviously,” I rolled my eyes. Like I ever eat with my mouth open anyway.
“Be confident,” Jenna told me, while I slipped my feet in my beautiful red heels.
“I am confident,” I lied through my teeth.
“And whatever you do, be safe,” Leanne said laughing.
“Shut it I’m a good girl,” I giggled.
“Ok, you ready?” Jenna asked.
“Yep, that’ll be the taxi,” I replied as my phone started going off with my ring back.
Jenna and Leanne were staying in mine and having a few drinks while I went on my hot date, but knowing them they’d get to ten o’clock and hit the town.
“Ok, good luck,” Jenna said ushering me out the door.
“And if he’s a freak just text us and we’ll come save you,” Leanne yelled as I stood on the landing.
“Leanne,” Jenna shouted, before turning to me and saying, “He’s not a freak.”
“Ok I’ll believe you - thousands wouldn’t,” I muttered under my breath.
“Just go, have a good night,” Jenna laughed winking at me as I made my way down the stairs to my waiting taxi. Well, here we go.
