A/n: AHHH TIME FOR A BITTERSWEET PROMOT I SAW ON SOME PROMPT BLOG AND THOUGHT WAS COOL.

Prompt: kira caused an apocalypse, less than 10% of the worlds population is alive. But life finds a way.

A babies cry rang though the air. The dead, still air. Sunrise shone above the horizon, no one for miles.

In a run down, abandoned house, you lay exhausted surrounded by scavenged medical equipment from the nearest abandoned hospital. You watched, watched as L held the new born in his arms with tears in his eyes. Party happy to see the birth of his child successful, party terrified he now has to raise her in an apocalypse. She was wrapped in a towel, umbilical chord cut and tied off.

Nine months ago, everything was normal. Nine months ago a mistake got you pregnant. Nine months ago you decided to keep the baby. Nine months ago you told your lover he was going to be a dad. Five months ago, anarchy broke out. Four months ago, Light vanished from taskforce. Three months ago you were forced to go on the run as the world decayed around you. Two months ago you got far away from civilisation, one month ago L collected as many baby supplies as he could find from the abandoned buildings. And just a moment ago, you gave birth.

Fuck, you were never doing that again.

"We still need to name her" you said.

L wiped his eyes on his sleeve only to have the tears come back again.

"You're the mother, you name her" he said.

"But I want your opinion"

"What were you thinking?"

"... Nozomu"

Hope. Just in another language. That's what you needed right now, hope. You'd be forced to hide for years to raise your child in safety but you still wanted to track down and overthrow Kira. That plan was just... put on hold.

"That's her name then, Nozomu. Why am I holding her? You just gave birth you should be-" L spoke.

"No... you hold her. I'm tired... and I know this means the world to you, the parentless child now a parent, it's a beautiful story to tell when she grows up" you replied.

Kicking aside all the medical equipment, you dragged your weak body over to the wall L sat against and leant against it next to him, resting your head on his shoulder looking down at your baby. The gentle rocking of L's arms lulling her to a clam state.

"I can't believe we have to raise her in this hell... the amount of trauma she's going to have..." L sighed.

"As long as she's out of harms way, kept away from Kira's people, she'll be safe"

The plan currently was to find a helicopter and enough supplies and get out of Japan. L could fly one, and Kira was inside japan. He may have the world under his command, and the population may be so low buildings are abandoned and falling apart and in crowded areas there's bodies in the streets, but if you can escape the country, it'll be harder for him to track you down. Of course you couldn't leave while you were at risk of giving birth at any moment. And you'd have to wait a little longer until it's safe to fly with Nozomu. But as long as you could escape to a safer place, everything would be ok for the time being.

"I love her, I do. But... what if I just... didn't finish nine months ago? We wouldn't have to raise a child in an apocalypse. Don't get me wrong, I adore her, I'd die for her and I'm so grateful to be a dad but..." L pondered.

You understood what he meant. These circumstances are bad for a child but now you had to make do, and it all could have been avoided with one simple action. One double check of the protection. One change of events. It was a hard situation, but when you fell pregnant, the world was normal. No one saw this coming and now you were stuck a mother in the worst time to be one.

You loved her, you really did. You couldn't wait to see her grow and thrive. But these were such difficult times.

The sunrise hit the broken window of the house, the light streaming in and hitting the face of the new born. She squirmed in L's arms, and for the first time, opened her eyes.

She looked up at the two of you, looking lost and confused at first.

"Hey, welcome to the world sweetheart" you smiled, gently taking her small hand into yours.

"It's a bit messed up right now, but I promise when you're older it'll be better. Mummy and daddy will protect you and re-build everything back to the way it was just for you..." L added.

L gently brushed the hair from her face, and the sensation made Nozomu smile up at him, laughing that classic baby giggle every parent longed for.

"Oh my god I'm gonna cry again..." L smiled.

"I think you've cried more than the baby has. So much for being 'emotionless" you teased.

"I'm a dad now, I kind of have to have emotions"

The baby reached her hands up trying to touch you, making baby noises, smiling and wiggling around in her towel.

"I can't believe that's my child" L said.

"Better start believing quick because you gotta help take care of her" you replied.

His free hand grabbed your chin and turned you to face him, planting a loving kiss on your lips. One arm around you, one holing his child. The worlds greatest detective, now a father and a runway had to be stronger than he'd ever been before, for the safety of his child. For the future of the world. For the overthrowment of Kira.

The fate of the world was in his hands, he needed to track down Light and end him all while raising a child and protecting the love of his life.

But one things for sure, no matter how strong he had to be, he'd always view you as stronger. I mean, he just witnessed you give birth, if you could do that and move around and sit up right afterward, you could kill god with a single hand.

And he'd be right by your side with daughter in arms when you marched up to the man and pushed him out of heaven, taking over as the true goddess you were.
