Attack causes harm. But the worst kind of attack is betrayal. Sure, your enemies may try to harm you. But nothing cuts deeper than when someone you thought you trusted is the one wielding the dagger.
Having someone betray you is your fault. It was your fault for believing. It was your fault for trusting them and putting faith in them. When you find out that they're not to be trusted, well, if you hadn't been stupid enough to trust them in the first place then you would never had been betrayed.
When we get mad at traitors, some of the anger is directed towards the traitor. But much of the anger is directed towards ourselves. We blame ourselves for putting ourselves into the vulnerable position.
No matter how hard it is to forgive someone, nothing is harder than forgiving yourself.
