The current time was seven-fifty AM, and in exactly ten minutes the final warning bell at Georgetown Trinity was going to ring. Sebastian usually had no problem with that, but today was a little different.
He and Taliana had been sitting in Trinity's parking lot for the past few minutes, watching silently as more cars pulled in and students piled out. As their peers laughed and shouted greetings to each other, Sebastian was trying hard not to panic.
Taliana didn't look much better. When he'd picked her up that morning, she'd walked outside to his car like she was heading to the gallows. Honestly, he'd felt pretty much the same way, but if this whole plan meant getting Blair off his back and making it obvious that they'd never be together again, he'd do just about anything.
And if that meant fake-dating Taliana fucking Avilla, he'd paste a smile on his face and act like he'd never loved someone more.
"We should head in."
Stick Girl didn't look too happy with his suggestion. "I have a feeling this isn't going to go well," she grumbled, gazing at the building where a few kids were lingering outside the doors.
"It'll be fine," he tried to reassure her, but in the pit of his stomach he knew something was bound to go awry. "You've got me, Marcus, Michael and Jacob as allies. What could go wrong?"
She scoffed and shot him a doubtful look. "Was that supposed to make me feel better or something?"
"Yeah, actually, it was." A lame attempt, but it was something.
"Shame it didn't work. Can we get this over with now?"
Once they were out of the car, he reluctantly offered her his hand, which she took with a grimace.
"This is going to suck," she groaned, letting her head fall back.
"How much is the real question."
He somehow managed to plaster a smirk on his face as he laced his fingers with hers and started off towards the brick building. Those who were loitering by the doors moved out of the way when they saw him and Stick Girl coming. Some merely looked confused, while others looked downright shocked by the couple's intertwined fingers. There were even a few who looked as if they'd seen a ghost.
Sebastian saw the corners of Taliana's mouth tip up as she leaned in to whisper in his ear. "Wouldn't it be great if their faces got stuck like that?"
"Then we wouldn't be the freak show anymore."
His grin didn't fade as they stepped inside together, almost forgetting who was holding his hand. Stick Girl could be quite pleasant when she wanted to.
However, his amusement didn't last long. It took a minute for him to figure out why the usually boisterous hallway had suddenly gone silent, but once he remembered who was standing next to him, he understood perfectly. He and Taliana shared a glance before starting down the packed corridor, and before long, the voices started up again.
