Chapter 32: The Date

Beginne am Anfang

"Oh, so a ride on a lawn-mower then?" He teased. He wasn't kidding about knowing his eighties movies.

I rolled my eyes at the reference again and tried not to smile but at least from this angle he couldn't see me. "I was thinking more like we get our pottery on and see where the night takes us," I giggled.

"Oh," he said, flipping us over on the couch so he was hovering over me. Damn, that boy could move fast. "As you wish," he murmured, pressing his lips against mine.

My heart fluttered at his reference and the kiss as I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him closer. He lowered himself on to me and I felt my body warm at the contact, at his tongue moving along my lips, at his hand gliding up and down my side and raising goosebumps all over my body. The fact that I was closer to him after what he told me made the kiss that much better, made me hold him tighter to try to erase his insecurities.

His lips moved away from mine and left a trail of fire behind as they moved down, along my jaw and onto my neck. I threaded my fingers through his hair and moaned softly as he sucked on the sensitive skin, his hand coming up and grazing against the side of my breast.

He paused and I frowned, leading his head back up towards me. I was beginning to recognize the look on his face when someone was talking to him and he had that look.

"Is something wrong?" I asked.

"No," he said, shaking his head, and nuzzling his nose with mine. "Everything's fine. Tess was just letting me know the Elders responded to some of my questions about you."

"Oh," I said, raising my eyebrows. "Who are the Elders again?"

"They're the ones that enforce the laws all supernaturals are expected to follow. Mostly they're in place to make sure we stay hidden from humans but they do meddle in other things. Like pack wars and attacks, stuff like that," he said. "They try to stay out of it but if it gets out of hand and starts attracting human attention, they step in."

"Oh, so why don't they help with the Rego issue?" I frowned.

"Because they're idiots and so corrupt it's ridiculous," Xander said, rolling his eyes. "It would be a whole process and because you're the only one that can identify him and you're not a shifter or even in my pack yet, they wouldn't accept your word. If Kaden had seen him too we'd have more of a leg to stand on but you're the only one that saw him and until you earn credibility, I'm afraid your word doesn't mean much. Plus, you're my mate and I'm not exactly in great standings with the Elders," he admitted, darting his eyes away.

"What'd you do?" I sighed.

"I didn't do anything," he defended. "They're just ridiculous and corrupt and their laws are ridiculous and sometimes you have to break the rules for the greater good. They just don't seem to understand that," he shrugged. "I've missed every annual meeting for the last couple years so I got quite the scolding when I started asking for advice."

"Well maybe you should try following the rules?" I suggested, trying not to laugh.

"Rules are meant to be broken," he smirked. "They really are annoying and tedious though. Think of them like our government, besides the laws and all that, we have to send them financial forms and incident reports and all kinds of dumb shit," he said, rolling his eyes.

"Paperwork," I nodded in understanding.

"Basically," he said, his mouth quirking into a smile as he placed a kiss against my cheek, then down my jaw and into my neck again.

I closed my eyes and tried to focus on my breathing as his tongue moved across my skin, leaving me panting. "What did you ask them about me?" I breathed out. I enjoyed kissing him way too much but I also needed to be more involved in what the hell was going on.

"Mostly questions about our bond," he said, picking his head up and staring down at me. His hand came up, fingers grazing gently across my cheek. "How things would be different as far as marking and all that. And about the dreams."

"You didn't know about the dreams before?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Uh, not really," he admitted, flipping us over so I was laying on him again. Damn, he was good. "Not until you. I wasn't kidding when I said if you were a wolf we probably wouldn't have stopped fucking since we met. Wolves usually mate right away and the getting to know each other thing happens later," he explained. "So I'd heard vaguely about the dreams when wolves waited but I don't know much about it."

"Geeze," I said, unable to stop the blush. "Such animals," I teased.

He rolled his eyes and pulled me into another kiss. "Watch it," he warned. "Or I'll show you just how much of an animal I can be."

Oh God... Yeah, I felt that right between my legs.

"So," I cleared my throat. "Um, what did they say?"

"I don't know," he shrugged. "Tess was just letting me know the email is there."

"Well, should we check it?" I asked, tilting my head to the side.

"We can if you want to. You want to check right now?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I don't know," I said, biting my lip. "What exactly were your questions?"

"How marking would work," he said, bringing his hand up and running his fingers down my neck, making my breathing hitch. "And about the dreams in general but specifically if there was anything I could do to help with them other than the obvious. Renzo heard a rumor and I was checking to see if it was true."

"You want to help with the dreams?" I asked. I was kind of surprised.

"Of course I do," he frowned. "You were getting frustrated. I don't want you to associate me with frustration."

God, he was sweet. So ridiculously sweet. "So... What was the rumor? You mentioned sleeping with me last night, right?" I asked.

"Yeah," he nodded. "I asked them if it was true and if it was, if I would need to be with you the whole night or just help you fall asleep."

"You wouldn't want to stay with me?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Of course I'd want to stay with you, Adira," he said, shaking his head and pulling me into a gentle kiss. "Of course I do. But it seems it's not what you want so I'm trying to find ways around it."

I nodded and sunk down into his chest so he couldn't see my face. I hadn't known him very long but the hell with it. I felt him moving and looked to see his hand going into his pocket for his phone. He pulled it out and I set my hand on his, halting his movement.

"Don't you want to read the answers?" He asked.

I bit my lip and took his phone, tossing it to the side and snuggling down against him. "No. I don't care what the answer is. Let's just sleep like this."

His silence told me he was surprised. It only lasted so long before he wrapped his arms around me and pressed a kiss to the top of my head. "There is a bed, you know," he informed me.

"Uh, yeah, a bed seems dangerous," I admitted. "Let's just stay like this. Unless you're uncomfortable?" I asked, picking my head up to look at him.

"No," he said, setting his hand on my face and pressing a kiss to my forehead. "I've never been more comfortable in my life."

A/N:

Hiii loves! Well, technically where I live it's still Friday so I made it! For those of you that missed my announcement, I had a family member pass away this morning and I needed some time today, that's why this update is a little late and is also the reason I didn't get to my usual comment responding, but I promise I will get there! Reading your comments makes my day infinitely better. Just needed to take most the day off <3 So please drop a comment for me to let me know how you liked this chapter!

Kinda nice to have a lighter one after all that drama, huh?

What did you think of the date?

And what about Addie making the move for them to sleep together?

I think we've made some real progress here ;)
