PROLOGUE
Four walls.
I’ve almost forgotten what standing beneath the empty sky feels like.
Four walls.
That’s been my life for the past few weeks.
Darkness envelops me, day and night.
The musty smell of the room is the only smell I can remember.
The handcuffs around my wrist cut into my skin.
Hunger like I’ve never known before eats at me.
Four walls.
That’s all I’ve seen since they caught me.
I’ve cried – oh boy, have I cried! I’ve screamed. But nobody ever comes to save me.
My captors are the only faces I’ve seen for the past few weeks.
I’m beginning to fear that theirs will be the only faces I will ever see from this point on.
My name is Claire Knox and I was kidnapped.
