Working at the BAU can be hard. Allowing yourself to love can be harder. Allowing yourself to fall in love with Doctor Spencer Reid? The task seems impossible.
Love has never been your thing. Sure, you've always wanted someone who was there for you...
There Emily stood, in the doorway of the restaurant, eyes wide and mouth agape.
You matched her shocked gaze as you held an awkward eye contact. A burning blush running over your cheeks, you began lightly hitting Spencer, who, was trailing his lips down your neck, completely oblivious to your teammates presence.
"Spence" you whisper- yelled and tugged at the back of his head, pulling him off you. He opened his mouth to complain but you took him by the chin, turning his head to look at Emily, who was still too stunned to move a muscle.
"I uhh- I let my uh- sweater in the..car.." she feigned for a moment, eyes darting from you, to Spencer and back again. And then: "Holy shit!" She yelled, drawing the attention of a few randoms in the parking lot.
"Emily it's not-"
"Actually, it's exactly what it looks like." Spencer interrupted with a surprisingly smug smirk.
Emily pressed a hand over her mouth. "Holy shit." She repeated, more to herself this time. Both you and the doctor stood silently, awaiting her reaction.
Suddenly, she smiled and began laughing. Spence tossed you a confused look to which you simply shrugged your shoulders.
"JJ and Morgan owe me thirty bucks."
"What?" You and the doctor spoke in unison.
"Well, JJ didn't buy it and Morgan never actually thought Spencer would make the first move- wait- who made the first move? I bet it was you, Y/N" Emily rambled on. "I can't wait to see their faces" She exclaimed, turning to go back inside.
"Wait" In the nick of time, you grabbed her arm, pulling her back. "You can't tell the team." You spoke slowly, panic in your eyes. Emily raised a sharp brow at you as if to say "really?"
"You work on a team of profilers, Y/N, they'll find out if they haven't already."
"I know, I know. Just not yet. Please?" You begged, tightening your grip on her arm.
Emily thought for a moment, eyes darting between you and Spencer. Finally, she let out a sigh.
"Fine."
You thanked Emily and she told you she was happy for you before going back inside the restaurant.
"Hurry inside and fix your hair Spencer." She had called out before leaving.
Turning to Spencer, you were about to utter the words "That's a relief" but your stomach dropped at the sight of him. The Spencer you were with five minutes ago was gone. Now, his eyes were narrowed and a muscle ticked in his jaw; a clear sign as any that something was wrong.
"Spence?" You approached him slowly.
He shook his head at you, loose locks of hair partially covering his eyes.
"Why don't you want the team knowing?" He asked causing a throb of pain in your chest. You opened your mouth in defense , but he spoke for you.
"I mean, they really shouldn't be that surprised. Like Emily said, they are profilers and the most recent reports cite that, within a survey of over 1,000 people, 11 percent have admitted to in-office sex with a coworker and another four percent have slept with a non-coworker within office premises which raises the total to 15 percent which means it's highly likely and should be assumed that at least one person or couple is currently or has hooked up. Now, unless Emily and JJ are being unfaithful, we are the leading contenders....or are you embarrassed of me-"
"Spencer!" You exclaimed, as adorable his rambles were, now wasn't exactly a good time.
He opened his mouth to speak once more so, in a rush, you pressed your lips to his, silencing him.
"Spencer" You spoke softly but sternly, a hand on each side of his face. "You are perfect. If anything, you're too perfect for me."
At your words, Spencer gifted you a lopsided smile, his eyes brighter already.
"Actually-" he began.
"Reid." You warned, narrowing your eyes. He threw his hands up in mock surrender, laughing. "Kidding, Kidding."

"Very funny." You teased. And then, growing serious once more: "Listen, Rossi gave me a big scolding about putting the team in danger if we flaunt this" You pointed between the two of you, not entirely sure what to call it. "But, i'd be more than happy to show you off Spence, I just want to enjoy it for ourselves only for a little longer- plus I can't handle another dad talk from Rossi, okay?"
Spencer grabbed your hand, lacing his fingers with yours. "Okay." He agreed, pressing a kiss to the crown of your head.
"Ill go in first." You said,"Fix your hair."
-
"What're we talking about?" You questioned, sliding into the booth next to Prentiss, who gave you a sly wink. By now, Spencer was approaching the table.
"Well" JJ piped. "Morgan here was just telling us about his latest hookups.
"It's an art." Morgan smirked, sinking back into his seat. "How about you Hotch?" He teased and the whole table erupted in a round of laughter. Hotch threw his hands up.
"Hey! Hey!" He addressed the team. "When I was your age I was The Morgan of my team." Another round of laughter.
"What about you, Doctor?" It was Penelope. All eyes were locked on Spencer, awaiting his answer. Despite all, Spencer remained completely calm, his eyes locked with yours for a millisecond, he was teasing you.
After a dramatic pause, he spoke smoothly, shrugging his shoulders. "No hookups." He confirmed. The team let out a few sighs of disappointment, about to turn their attention to another member when Spencer moved forward, leaning his forearms on the table. "Yet." He concluded with smirk. The team let out hollers as you tried to prevent the deep blush which coated your cheeks.
The rest of the evening was lost in a bliss of drinks and stories but, every so often Spencer would make sure to catch your attention and you would smile, smiles reserved for only each other.
