When they first met, she resisted him at all costs. On subsequent trips to the hospital, the young woman crossed the doctor's path on several different occasions.

Dr. Bennett offered to take Georgina and her mother to lunch only to be met with a very firm 'No Thank You' from her mother. The older woman continued to warn her daughter to stay away from the man. She insisted it would be frowned upon if it got out that she was dating a white man.

"I know it's hard to resist the pull of a man who is handsome and powerful, but nothing good will come from this. I can assure you there is a pretty white girl somewhere in his life. Because God blessed you to be such a dazzling star, it's easy for any man to become captivated by you. What will you do if he leaves you? Can you handle it? I can assure you that you are nowhere near as strong as you think you are." Mrs. Wilfolk pleaded with her daughter to be careful in the selection of a man who would ultimately own her heart.

Georgina listened to her mother's advice until she stopped at a local grocery store to pick up a few things from her mother's list. But to her surprise, there he was. She wondered what would convince the white doctor to visit a black neighborhood.

Walking around the store as if he were a stranger, she ignored him as she moved away careful not to make contact with him should he come too close.

She made it a point to ignore the man until he caught her outside the store. As she accessed the door lock with the key, Dr. Bennett carefully caressed the back of her arm just above the bend of her elbow as he pleaded with her to join him for a cup of coffee and nothing else.

It was a simple cup of coffee that drew them together when she met him the first time and spilled his coffee on him. Here he was yet again offering the young beauty a cup of coffee and a conversation.

The simplicity of what he proposed piqued her interest, but the warning issued by her mother commanded that she must decline his request.

Georgina carefully pulled away from the man who was blessed with an alluring smile. Her mind whirled in the intoxication of his statuesque build. Though numerous men requested her affections daily, Lucas was unlike any of them. Not only did she hear his requests, she felt them in her soul.

The clicking sound broke the silence as the key engaged and the car door stood unlocked. His presence made her knees weak. There was no previous interaction with any other man that paralleled how she felt around him.

Even though she sincerely tried to honor her mother's request, the young woman was drawn to the doctor like a moth to a brightly lit flame. Georgina tried to move past him only to find that her feet were glued to their spot.

Lucas brushed her hand one last time intent on encouraging her to consider his offer. She was absolutely overwhelmed. The will to fight her feelings his advances vanishing the longer she remained by his side.

Georgina glanced up at the herculean enticed to indulge herself in the vision of him once more. The emerald green jewels sent her mind into a tailspin. He never once forced his attention on her. He was a gentleman... almost shy. She felt it was sweet that he simply wanted to be around her.

To weakened by his presence to resist, she allowed him in.

The freedom she felt with him removed all of the pressures life seemed to leverage against her. That made her crave more of him because of the way he placed her in the center of his world. He never asked her for sex or attempted to cross the boundaries others had always rushed her to cross.

Because he treated her with so much respect, Georgina grew to adore him.

Every gentle mannerism controlled her thoughts until they claimed the beats of one another's heart.
