"Mom! I'm home!"

I gently shut the door behind me, putting my bag down next to the door, as I leaned my stick against the wall. I didn't receive an answer as I walked into the kitchen, only to see my mom on a phone call.

Paper work was spread across the counter as she looked up saying a quick"hello" to me, before looking back down at her paper work. I walked over to the stool in front of the counter and sat down.

"I was hoping that you would make it today, but I know you were busy, so it's fine. I mean we lost anyway, and coach made us cheat. But I refused and so did Charlie, which is good"

"Oh good. Good."

I smiled a bit at her response before frowning"Yeah well, in all honesty, I don't think Charlie is ever going to play again. The coach yelled at him pretty badly and-" my mom shook her head cutting me off with"Oh no, no, no. I'll come in right away." I looked up at her, now realizing that she was only talking to the person on the phone.

'She wasn't even talking to me.'

My hands, which wrested on my lap, gripped my shorts in anger and sadness. I watched my mom shuffle some papers around, grabbing a pen to cross some stuff out and throw them away. There were quite a few, and they looked like different bills for stuff.

She said her goodbyes to the person on the phone, untangling the wire from around her, and walking over to put the phone back in the holder on the wall. Once she hung up she let out a sigh, turning towards me she gave me an apologetic look.

"Honey, I'm sorry. But they need me at the diner"

I nodded my head as she gave me a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek before grabbing her coat. Hand on the door knob she yelled"I'll be back in a couple of hours" I heard the door slam shut.

I let out a sigh as the sound of a car engine could be heard driving off, I mumbled"Yeah. Sure." I ended up hopping off the stool and marched up the steps to take a shower.

After I got dressed, I came downstairs and flopped on the couch. I was quick to grab the remote and turn on the TV, finding a movie to watch.

After hours of watching movies and tv shows I ended up falling asleep, only to be woken up by the sound of a phone ringing right by my ear. I jumped awake, falling off the couch in the process.

The phone kept ringing, causing me to let out a groan in annoyance "Yeah, yeah I heard you scream in my ear the first time." I got up, and sat on the couch. Grabbing the cordless phone from the side table, I hit the green answer button bringing the phone to my ear, not bothering to look at the ID.

"Hello?"

"(Y/n)! You are never going to believe what just happened."

I rubbed my eyes a bit, letting out a yawn before responding, recognizing Charlie's voice in a heart beat. "Charlie? Why are you calling me at..." I turned on the lamp on the side table. Looking at the clock on the wall above the TV finishing my sentence with "...ten o'clock at night?" Charlie could be heard shuffling around on the other end of the phone.

"Because our coach ended up knocking on my door, and actually apologized to me. Hell, we even had dinner together!" I sat there trying to process what Charlie just said. I scoffed in disbelief"Your kidding me." He responded with"Dead serious" I laughed a bit, as I ran my fingers through my messy hair"Wow. That's, weird. What happened to the coach who just wanted us to win?"

"I don't know. But I think he's going to try to teach us how to play hockey." I shook my head a bit"You better not just be pulling my leg Charlie." He laughed and responded with"I'm not. I swear."

"We'll see."

Charlie was right. The next practice we had, Bombay ended up taking us to a hockey store to buy new equipment.

I laughed as Jesse, Terry, Lester, and Dave all hit each other with hockey gloves. Charlie grabbed my hand "Come on" he said as he dragged me off to another end of the store.

He ended up stopping in front of the hokey sticks, letting go of my hand, to drag his across the hockey sticks. Stopping at the one that he wanted, he took it out, only to bring two extra with him, causing him to try to stop them from falling only for all the sticks to fall.

Charlie desperately tried to stop them, as I stood there laughing at him, he stood back up nervously crossing his arms, acting like he didn't do anything.

"Oh you think this is funny?"

I managed to stop laughing as I responded with"Yes, very." One of the hockey sticks on the ground suddenly grabbed my attention as Charlie rolled his eyes. I bent down and picked up the white and blue stick, standing back up"You know, these sticks aren't so bad. What do you think? Should I-" I looked over at Charlie only to cut myself off when I noticed him gone.

I sighed a bit, while twirling the stick around in my hands 'I guess this isn't so bad. At least now I don't have to worry about breaking my dad's stuff.' I held the stick in my hand and walked off to get the wrest of the things I need.

Charlie caught up with me soon after, a hockey stick in hand. "Hey, I was looking for you!" I laughed and shook my head"Says the person who walked off" he rubbed the back of his neck sending me and apologetic look"I'm sorry about that. It's just that, I saw this wicked cool hockey stick. Fulton ended up getting it down for me." I sent him a smile, stealing his hat from his head as I put it on, bill facing front, rather than the back like Charlie usually has it.

I nodded my head off towards the padding section as I said"Come on, let's go" Charlie seemed to be staring off into space, as he shook his head, a smile present on his lips. "Y-Yeah, let's go." He ended up grabbing my hand as we walked off.

The next stop we made was the ice rink for practice. "Dude, check them out man." Greg said as we all looked through the glass panels in front of us, at two ice skaters in the middle of the rink.

"Holy cow... they're pretty good skaters"

Bombay was quick to ask"Anybody know who they are?" Terry answered his question with"That's Tommy Duncan, he's in my science class." He pauses before continuing"And that's his sister Tammy.

"Think they'd wanna play hockey with us?" Bombay asked as a chorus of 'Yeah's could be heard from the boys, causing me and Connie to look at each other and roll our eyes.

"Go get dressed. I'll do the negotiating."

Bombay stayed behind as the wrest of us walked off to the locker room to change into our new practice jerseys.
