On Sunday Hazel and I do the same thing as the day before, tanning and swimming in the pool. Right now we’re lying on the sun lounges by the pool soaking up the rays. As I watch Hazel I notice that she keeps checking her phone, texting furiously. She hasn’t said much to me today but I know something is up. Over the past few years that I’ve been friends with her I know that she is never quiet, she’s always there with some snarky comment. She lets out a giggle and I turn to face her.

I pop an M&M in my mouth, “Ok that’s it, what the hell has made you so happy?”

She looks at me with an innocent expression. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

I raise my eyebrows at her and don’t break eye contact.

“Ok, fine! So I kinda met this guy.” She blushes.

“Hazel, that’s great!” I squeal. “So who’s the mystery man? I want details.” I grin sitting cross legged to face her.

“Well I was at the gym, don’t ask it was a one off.” She adds in seeing my facial expression, “and then bam I see him like punching a boxing bag and I literally swooned. My god Layli he was the definition of perfection.” She grins. “He was shirtless and all his back muscles were like flexing and there was sweat.” She sighs and I giggle at her. I’ve never seen her like this before, usually she’s only into hookups she like me hasn’t had the best of luck in the boyfriend department.

“So I like subtly walk past and by a twist of fate the bag swings kind of sideways and hits me. I was a little shocked and fell down so he quickly comes and helps me up saying how sorry he is. Then we had this moment where we just looked at each other without saying anything. His eyes were so pretty, they were like a mixture of green and blue it was like I couldn’t look away.”

“Is he our age?”

“I don’t think so I’m pretty sure he’s older, I’ve never seen him around before. But I didn't even tell you the best part he has tattoos and holy god I think I really like him Layli. But nothing like this has ever happened to me before after he gave me his number we’ve been texting and he wants to take me out sometime but I don’t know what to do in these situations and I’m freaking out.” She gasps.

“Wow chill. What are best friends for? I’ll help you, ok?” She grins at me and nods.

“That feels so good to get off my chest, you don’t know how long I’ve wanted to tell you that but I was embarrassed.” She says shyly and I look at her wide eyed.

“You? Embarrassed?” I laugh, “Wow what is this guys doing to my little Hazel?” She leans across the gap between our chairs and punches me on the arm.

“Ow.” I rub my arm to which she shrugs and smirks at me. We continue to do the same thing for the next few hours into the late afternoon when Hazel looks up from her phone with an expression I can’t read on her face.

“I better go home now. See ya.” She says before exiting the pool area, walking back into my house. Not a goodbye hug, not anything. What just happened? I sit up and quickly slip my thongs on my feet walking after her.

“Hazel? Are you ok?” I call as I run up the stairs to the back door. As I reach the front door I am puffing and I watch her hurrying away, I stand there probably looking baffled. What the hell just happened? I hope she’s ok and that nothing bad has happened to her. I don’t understand why she would hurry away like that. Especially without telling me what’s happening, the only reason she’d to have to do something like that is if she’s angry with me. But she couldn’t be I haven’t done anything to make her mad. We were laughing and getting along fine a few minutes ago. I hesitantly close the front door a few minutes after she’s disappeared from my line of vision and trudge up the stairs to my bedroom. Checking the time I am surprised when I see it’s almost 5 o’clock, time went quickly. Slowly I get change into some work out clothes from my bathers and chuck my phone onto my bed before going back downstairs and waiting for Max to arrive. He is coming over much later today than usual so he could fit in a 2 hour session back to back. I hear my mothers voice followed by a deeper one and upon recognising it head to the gym. As Max enters I gasp surprised by his look.
