Ayla's POV
"Qabool hain,
Qabool hain,
Qabool hain,"
It's funny how just a sentence can change your life.
People get married to who they love. Who they want to spend the rest of their life with. Who they care for. Who they cherish.
But here? That doesn't happen.
Growing up, I never had someone to take care of me. For as long as I can remember, I've been on my own. I, of course, have parents, but they were to ashamed of me.
Why?
Because their first born was a girl.
As soon as I turned eight, I was shipped off to a prestigious all girls academy in the States. My parents could care less.
Religion wasn't an important aspect in our world. I don't even remember the last time I prayed. My life was never normal.
My father completely ignored me. My mother always glaring at me.
In our world, arranged marriage was common. Like really, really common. Everyone I knew had an arranged marriage. If it were up to me, I would've ran away as soon as I was 13.
But when you have strong ties with the mafia, you can't even think about it.
Yes, the mafia.
The Pakistani Mafia to be exact.
When I was born, I was sold off. I stayed with my parents and when the time was right, I was to be wedded to the next don. I had never seen nor met him. I only knew his name and stories of him.
I only found out yesterday that I was getting married. My parents didn't tell me until last minute because they didn't want me escaping. Even if they had told me, I wouldn't have escaped because I had no where to go.
A lot of people at the academy didn't like me. I didn't even talk to them once and they automatically started assuming stuff.
I snapped back into reality as another random couple came and congratulated us. The woman, of course, had her eyes down, not looking at us. The man bowed respectfully before walking away. I also had my eyes down, not wanting to look at anyone.
