Beep Beep Beep!
I rolled over to the side of my bed to turn off my alarm clock but really all I wanted to do was go back to bed.
Beep Beep Beep!
It was 7:00. I had to be at the office at 8 and those fax papers had to be on Mr. Rivera's desk before he came in.
I pulled my self out of bed and hopped in the shower, but got out quickly cause the warm water was making me more drowsy.
I scrubbed off my makeup from last night and put on my bra and panties and went to my closet space to pick out my daily outfit.
What to wear...
I settled on a black, tight mid thigh skirt and a purple long sleeve blouse tucked in with my shiny black pumps.
I made a quick breakfast smoothie and then grabbed my purse and keys jumped in my white Lexus.
"I woke up like this!!!" I sang till I got to the parking lot and turned off my car and walked to the office building. I checked my watch. 7:48 .
I put my things down in my cubicle and went to the copy room to copy bosses' weekly report and brought it to his desk. I looked at the family pictures on his desk of him and his wife and 3 kids before being interrupted.
I was stopped in my tracks as I heard the loudspeaker, crackling and popping like a frying pan.
"Sorry for the interruption and static. Today please be aware that there will be college students coming from the local university to Job Shadow. Please don't be afraid if you see any unusual faces. Thank you. Please continue working."
I sighed and went to my desk and sat down, beginning a new day of work.
I woke up before my alarm clock sounded. I was super excited to finally job shadow today. My professor set this up for my Business class and I was ready.
The sound of my iPhone ringing.
My bae was calling. I immediately became even more excited than I already was and rushed over to the phone.
I answered it.
"Hey babe." I greeted her.
"Hey Hakim. I was wondering if you were coming to choir rehearsal tonight. Daddy needs you move a couple boxes from his office. And maybe you can move some thing else too. You know what I mean baby boy." She cooed.
"Hold up babe," I said. "Aren't we saving ourselves till marriage? You stay trying to seduce me." I laughed.
"Yeah.." She grumped. "I guess daddy would approve."
"What's the problem? Pastor taught us about purity many times. It's just hormones and Satan. You know he's trying to tempt you."
"Sometimes, I just feel like I'd wanna try it. I don't know..." she complained.
"Slow your roll... Its probably just demons. Or hormones. Whatever it is, we'll read over what the bible says about purity tonight."
"Okay, I guess." she sighed and hung up before saying I love you.
I groaned. Chantel had just started acting like this, wilding out and all of a sudden, becoming so fascinated with sexual activity. But we were both saving ourselves for each other for marriage. We had this planned out.
Regardless, I choose a short sleeved polo shirt and with my suit pants and church shoes to wear for the first day of my job shadow.
I took off my durag and brushed my hair, adding olive oil.
Finally, I was ready to go. I hopped in my car and drove anxiously to the office.
"Licia!" my coworker, Josh, yelled to me. "Let those college students into the building." He yelled from 3 cubics away. I chuckled and shook my head. He could be so unprofessional sometimes. But he was hella funny.
I walked down to the door and was greeted by a bunch of happy college students. I felt lucky that I was able to get a job so quickly even after dropping out of college after 2 years.
They all went every which way, oohing and ahhing over the littlest things. I went to my desk and started checking emails. After about an hour, nobody stopped by to see about my job. I lowered my head. Obviously, stupid. Nobody wants to shadow the assistant.
I got a fax that I had to deliver to Mr. Rivera and started walking to his office, scanning the contents in my hand when I knocked heads with someone and all my papers feel on the ground.
"Ouch!" I said, rubbing my noggin. I scurried to pick up my papers and looked up to see who hit me.
"S-s-sorry, ma'am." he stuttered.
I looked at the beautiful woman in front of me and did a double take.
"Excuse me if I'm wrong, I asked, but weren't you that girl from the strip-"
Before I could finish, she yanked my arm into the nearest empty room, which just so happened to be the break room.
"Who are you? How do you know where I work?" she asked in a low voice.
"Well, that answers my question. Why are YOU here?" I asked.
"Who is you?" she asked.
"Well, I am Hakim Williams. I'm job shadowing. And you are, Cinnam-right?
"What I tell you about that? My name is Alicia Monee."
I shook her hand. She gave a fake smile and tried to walk out, but I grabbed hold of her wrist.
"What's with you being a stripper?" I asked.
"I gotta do what I gotta do." She replied hastily. I could tell she was uncomfortable yet I persisted.
"Do you know that's a sin? Exposing your body for money? God didn't intend for you to be working there."
"Well excuseee me Mr T.D. Jakes! But your spoiled ass doesn't have to work for money. I can only depend on myself!" she yelled, eyes brimming with tears.
"I was just saying, there are plenty of other options for you. But that job of yours is dirty, and you know it, and so does God!" I yelled back.
We were both startled by someone behind us, only to be the big man himself, Mr. Rivera.
"Is there a problem?"
"Uhh..No sir." She scrambled to gather her papers. "I was uh... just about to umm... bring these papers to your desk." She hurried out of the room.
I filed out immediately.
