"Spencer?" You breathed out.

His presence left you in shock, a thing so surreal it caused all other thoughts to still. Leaving only him.
The man you'd last seen in critical condition because he risked his life for you.

His eyes fixated on you, perhaps studying your emotions.
"Hey." He offered a small smile.

A million questions ran laps in your mind. Every fiber of your body was begging to touch, to hold him. Your brain formed and erased multiple sentence starters, nothing seemed fitting. A million words unspoken.

Your body moved on it's own and it wasn't until his fingers wrapped back around yours, that you noticed you had grabbed his hand. The weight of it brought an unexpected joy and smile to you. Then the memory of his cold, medical tube clad hand in yours brought a new wave of guilt. You studied his hand around yours, silently wishing that you'd done better, that you'd taken your chance a long time ago.

His fingers squeezed yours softly and your eyes fluttered up to meet his soft gaze.
"Spence"

His eyes sparked at the nickname, the sound of you saying his name, a simple but soothing act.

As you opened your mouth to speak, the stairway door flung open, a few team members rushing out.
Instinctively, you jumped back from Spencer.

"Welcome back, Spencer!" Emily called, walking swiftly over, she gave him a brief hug, followed by JJ, Morgan and finally Gideon.

Gideon clapped a hand on Spencer's shoulder. "It's good to have you back."
Reid gave a signature lopsided smile. "It's good to be back with the team." His eyes shifted from the crew, undoubtedly focusing on you. You shifted under his gaze.

For the next moments you stood awkwardly to the side of the group as they caught up with the doctor.
You head throbbed with conflicting emotions, your brain always tracing back to the words. Never doubt I love.

Gideon clapped his hands, gathering the attention of the team.
"As excited as we all are, we have serious work to do. Emily, walk Reid through the case, the rest of you back to work."

The team dispersed back to their assignments. You watched as Spencer disappeared from your view.

Just as you reached for the door handle, Gideon's voice stopped you.
"Y/N, Rossi wants you in his office."

-

Your stomach sank further down with each step of the journey to Rossi's temporary office. Nerves caused your hands to shake against the metal door handle.

"Sit." Rossi ordered when you entered the room. He sat behind a large desk, case files in hand. Slowly, you sat across from him. Deep breathes.

"Listen, I know Hotch has been concerned about me and honestly I'm grateful for the brotherly concern but I assure you I can handle"

"So you and the doc, huh?"

You mouth dropped in revelation.
Rossi dropped the files in his hands, his eyes now focused on you. Patiently waiting for an answer. Yet, no coherent words could form in your mouth.

Rossi did his best to give you a comforting smile.
"You're not in trouble, L/N. It's alright."

You dug your finger into the leather chair, knuckles white with tension, you cleared your throat.
"Nothing uh...happened..I promise. I mean even if I wanted it to it definitely didn't and I know that's super unprofessional and I wouldn't dream of endangering my position on this team....sir."

Rossi laughed at your awkwardness.
"So, I'm right."

Biting your lip, you shifted in your seat.
"No..I mean..yes?" You stumbled, avoiding his gaze.

Seemingly calm, Rossi stood from his chair and crossed the room until his was standing over you. You craned your neck to look at him, feeling unbearably weak under his watch.

"Can I give you some advice?" Rossi questioned as he sat on the edge of the desk. Not waiting for an answer he spoke again.

"I know what it's like. Young love. It's special, especially with you two, I can tell."

Your heart fluttered at the implication of you and Reid as a couple.
"But?" You asked, waiting for the catch.

"But, I know what new love comes with; naiveness. That's a dangerous thing, Y/N. Especially in this like of work."

Your brows furrowed. "You want me to quit?"

Rossi scoffed. "No, of course not. This team needs you, you're an important asset. You both are. Which is why it's my job to insure my team is taking every step to ensure safety. I know this isn't what you'd like to hear but the possibility of an in-team relationship is a liability. Do you understand?"

You didn't, but you nodded your head regardless.

"As much as I want your happiness, my main concern is the practicalities of this. If any information got released about you two, it could backfire and be used against the team in future cases or even future unsubs. I'm nottelling you what to do, I just want you safe. We need you Y/N."

Rossi placed a hand over yours. You felt sick.

"Sometimes it's better to let things go now, before reality forces it to end."

It is both a blessing and a curse to feel everything so very deeply. -d.j

Hey guys! Sorry my updating schedule has been so random. I hope you're all staying safe.
I just wanted to give a psa about this book. I know it's nowhere near perfect. I mean I started this what seems like forever ago and my writing has improved drastically from what it was at the start of this. This book is a journey and an effort. It's not going to be incredibly well written and there will be typos lol. I just ask you all to be respectful of the time I do take to write this. I don't do it for me. I do it so people can read something to bring them joy and a variety of emotions. I don't have the time to fix small errors in this book. With my final years of school and me pursuing theatre and screenwriting I have so much on my plate and it's overwhelming enough as it is. I'm still going to write this book I just ask for respect for what I write and the time I commit to give you guys entertainment.
Thank you so much to everyone who has stuck with me through this book, I couldn't do it without you.
Also omg this book went from 30k to 45k views in literally a week, that is insane!
See you lovelies next chapter, XX.
