Chapter 18: Alice

~~~~~~~~~~~{Noel's Point of View}~~~~~~~~~~~
And when I fell hard,
You took a step back,
With out me, without me, without me... – Taylor Swift, I Knew You Were Trouble.
Word of my split from Tony spread fast, within the hour Natasha was having to hold Clint back from punching his face in and tensions with Steve and Tony had never been so high. I stayed with Sky and Starlie who were sitting in the lounge room while Steve and Clint talked in the kitchen.
“I don’t get it, you guys seemed so happy.” Sky sighed, no doubt wondering if Steve was going to give her the axe anytime soon. I knew what she was thinking was absolutely absurd and I think she realised that too after a moment.
I shrugged. “I guess not. But it’s my own fault really. I knew he was trouble and I fell for him anyway.”
Ignoring how upset I was and smiling maliciously, “Well, the way I see it is now you have a perfect reason to serve some stone cold revenge.”
I rolled my eyes and she cracked her knuckles and Sky sighed, “Starlie, not everything is solved with violence.”
Starlie snorted unattractively, “Says Cobalt the notorious master assassin.”
Bruce Banner’s daughter smirked mischievously at Skylar Evans’ reaction. She shot daggers at the blonde while I stood by, idly watching them as they bickered. Star knew she’d struck a sore spot for Sky and I knew that if I didn’t jump in between the two girls soon then I’d have to pull them off of each other.
“I’m not getting any form of revenge, Starlie, as tempting as it sounds.” I admitted. “I think we just need our space now –I don’t want to damage our already fragile relationship further.”
Starlie rolled her eyes and pushed herself up off the couch, “My God, Noel! This isn’t a broken window or a shattered vase! He dumped you! You told him you loved him and he backed away, aren’t you the least bit angry?”
Her words hit me hard and I fought back the urge to slap her across the face, but my lack of emotional control showed when the lights flickered on and off and the light globs around me exploded, glass shattering everywhere.
“Hey, are you girls alright?” Steve called from the kitchen, popping his head around the corner.
“We’re fine!” Sky called a little too quickly as I picked up my jacket from the edge of the couch and left.
The next morning I found myself waking up on Steve’s couch in his apartment in Brooklyn. I’d called him a few hours after I left Stark Tower and asked if I could crash in his apartment for the night, and being the gentlemen he was perfectly fine with it.
