I lied in bed a few more minutes, my body feeling like a deadweight.
Sometimes getting out of bed in the morning is the hardest feat of the day.
I looked over at the digital clock on my dresser.
8:29 AM. If I wasn't in the nurse's office in the next minute, she would place a phone call to Parker.
But even then, I couldn't seem to make myself move.
At 8:45, a knock came on my dorm room door.
"Come on Lee," I said to myself, still staring at the ceiling. "You need to go and answer the door."
But nothing inside of me sparked, I had no drive to get out of bed let alone answer the knocking at the door.
Five more minutes passed before my cell phone rang, which was right next to my pillow.
Parker's face was on my screen.
"Hello?" I asked, answering his call.
"Did you oversleep?" he asked.
"What time is it?"
"8:51," he informed me. "But I'm guessing that you didn't oversleep."
There were a couple of moments of silence on his end of the phone. "Okay, well I'm in South Carolina."
He had a game this afternoon. I had that in my iPhone calendar.
"Make a goal for yourself Lee," Parker reminded me.
I let out a sigh, still staring at the ceiling. "Okay Parker."
"I'll come by tonight," he promised.
I hung up, placing my phone back down on my bed.
Today's goal? Get out of bed.
I didn't reach my goal until about 3:00 that afternoon, when I really had to pee.
But that was something, right?
I pulled on a pair of pants, seeing as though I hadn't gotten dressed yet this morning, before heading down the hall to the communal bathroom.
The dorms were mostly empty, everyone either in class or off around campus.
I made it back to my dorm the same time Warren was approaching it.
"Did you brush your hair?" Warren asked me.
"I ran my fingers through it."
He shook his head at me. "That's not the same thing."
"Well then no."
I opened my dorm room door, and Warren just invited himself in.
"I brought you lunch," he informed me.
"Well gee thanks."
"And your English classwork," he continued. "And History stuff."
I nodded, as I climbed up the ladder to my bed.
"I'll see you at dinner tonight then?"
"Then I'll bring you dinner tonight," he promised. "But you have to get out of bed to answer the door."
"That's not going to happen."
"Great, then I'll see you around 8." He flashed me a smile before leaving my dorm.
