AN: i'm a terrible person also i know this is set during uan tour, but we're all gonna pretend that one direction were not famous enough during that time for niall to be mobbed if he took a train to birmingham by himself because i haven't managed to convince myself of that fact

haven't read it through because my contact lenses are drying out in my eyes from staring at the screen for so long, so let me know if you find any mistakes and i'll fix em tomorrow ok love you all sorry sorry sorry xx

The calendar sat on the wall, staring at him. Three days. Just three days, and he would be meeting Charlie.

It was all planned - they'd finish the last of their recording for the upcoming albums, do one last interview, and then they were free for the best part of a month. He'd catch a train up to Birmingham from the airport the morning after they got back to London, hopefully avoid any fans, and take a taxi ride to the children's home.

"Do you think I should ring up?" Niall asked Liam anxiously, who looked up from where he was killing Lego people on his DS.

"Who?"

"The people at the home where Charlie lives."

Liam paused, lowering the game slowly. "I don't know," He said. "Maybe. But surely you'd have to permission from our managers and stuff if it was official? Are you going to talk to all the kids there, or?"

Wincing, Niall shook his head. He felt guilty for only wanting to see Charlie, but this was different to all the hospital and school visits they'd done. He knew her, he was sure he did. "I kind of really need to speak to just her, though. This - this needs to be about her for once," He said, voice quiet.

There was a moment of silence before Liam stood up, stretching. "I wouldn't then. I mean, you can, but if you do you'll end up having to get approval from the higher ups, and that would postpone it, right?"

Niall silently thanked Liam for the level of understanding between them without it having to be discussed. "You're right. Thanks."

"S'aright. Night." Liam mumbled  as he left the room, leaving Niall curled up on the sofa with the well worn packet of letters and a stomach full of excitement. He couldn't understand why he was so looking forward to meeting Charlie, it was just the thought of finally seeing her in real life, hearing the voice behind the words, that made him feel slightly giddy inside.

Okay, maybe he did know why he was so excited, he realised as he opened his wallet again and fished out the photos Charlie had sent him but. But. He was just going to ignore that particular feeling for now. Shove it deep in the back of his head. Yeah.

Right now, though, he desperately wanted to read more letters. He had five more between three days - and he'd done well to spread the others out across the last leg of tour - but he didn't want to read them all at once and spend the rest of his time restless and waiting. Maybe he could read one now, and save the others for the train ride.

With that thought in mind, he tore into letter seventeen.
