"Actually, I was rethinking the name Braeden," he said.
"Why? I like that name."
"I know, but when you told me you wanted to name your son Braden, I figured when we have a boy we can name him that."
"That's sweet, but I'm not having another kid. After this one, I am done," I said.
Blake & my mom looked at each other, then looked at me skeptically. I know what they're thinking, but I don't care.
"Bri, sometimes you can't control what happens," my mom said.
"Oh, I can. I'm getting back on birth control and we will be using condoms. I'll get my tubes tied or get a hysterectomy if I have to."
"How about we just talk about baby names," I said, changing the subject.
"What about Brielle?" Blake suggested.
"Bridgette?" my mom asked.
"It has potential," I said, thinking about the name.
"Betania?" my mom suggested.
"What?! I've never heard that name before," I said, raising an eyebrow.
I got my phone and googled the name. I narrowed my eyes at the screen and let my phone fall on the floor.
"Hell no!" I said.
"What?" Blake asked.
"Betania apparently derives from the name Bethany," I said.
"So what the problem?" my mom asked.
"We already ruled out Bethany," Blake said.
"I see," she nodded, "what about Belinda?"
"Oh God Mom, no."
"I'm just kidding," she laughed.
"How about Brooke?" Blake asked.
"Hm," I said, putting my finger to my chin, "I like Brooke."
"I still like Baylynn though," he said.
"Either way, it's up to you. Just as long as she has a name before she gets here," I said.
"I'm sure y'all will figure it out," my mom said, "but Blake, I wanna talk to you about what should happen if there are any complications."
She's about to say something to scare him.
"If it comes down to you saving Briana or the baby, who do you save?" she asked, leaning forward a little.
"Wait, what?" he asked.
I looked up at him and he looked like he would break a sweat any minute now.
"Well Bri told me she would want you to save the baby instead of her," my mom said, "so what would you do?"
He looked at me, expecting me to say something, but I didn't. I actually wanted to hear his answer.
"I would save Bri," he said, "we could always try to have another baby, but I wouldn't know what to do without her."
"Are you just telling me what I want to hear?" she asked him.
She looked at him with her eyebrow raised without saying a word. I could tell how nervous Blake was, so I had to put an end to this.
"Calm down, Blake. She was just testing you," I said, laughing a little.
My mom's face relaxed and she laughed with me and Blake let out a sigh of relief.
"So you would actually want me to save you, right?" he asked me.
I'm gonna sound like a horrible person for saying this, but I can't lie.
"Yes," I said quietly, "I know that's unbelievably selfish, but I don't want you to hate the baby if I don't make it. And I don't want you marrying some other broad, having my child call her 'Mommy.' Hell no."
"That would never happen," he chuckled.
"You say that now, but we all know you would get married and have kids with the other woman. Then, she & her little crumb-snatchers are gonna treat my child & KJ like shit. Y'all ain't bout to treat my kids like no damn Cinderella. Uh uh. She would probably make you put KJ up for adoption and I swear to you, I will come back from the dead and haunt you bitches."
He was laughing at me even though I was dead serious. I put a lot of thought into things like this.
"You have an over active imagination," he said, "but like I said, that won't happen."
He pulled me into him and kissed me, completely forgetting my mom was sitting right there.
"I'm gonna leave you two alone," she said.
I waved her off without breaking from the kiss. I eventually pulled away and laid my head on Blake's shoulder. I put my hand on my stomach and smiled discreetly.
I can't wait to meet my baby girl.
Do you think Briana's reason makes her selfish?
