A/N - Dream lives with Sapnap in Florida in this fic - completely platonically, of course. Also, it's July in Florida, and George is staying there for a month. Why would George stay in Florida for one of its hottest months? The power of gay I guess
Dream isn't sure if George can see his repeated sidelong glances. George is talking about his flight and Dream is only half listening, one hand on the wheel, and the other resting by the open window. Dream keeps staring at George - while still driving safely, of course - and he's opted out of listening to what George is actually saying. George has a nice voice, though, and he's pretty easy on the eyes, too. Which is something Dream never really expected to be thinking about a guy, he's straight. Right? He's only ever liked girls.
That can always change, a voice whispers in the back of his head. It's 2020. No judgment here.
Which is distracting. Not enough to keep his head completely off driving, though. And he's vaguely tuned into George's story. His mind's in a lot of places.
"And that's how I got here," George finishes, and Dream's head snaps over for a second before turning back to the dashboard.
"That's wild, dude." Dream says, lifting his hand briefly to scratch the back of his head.
George chuckles quietly and they sit in comfortable silence for a moment.
"So," George begins, "what's it like living with a roommate?"
"It's alright. It's cool. Sapnap and I, we both do Minecraft on Youtube, and collabs are cool when we're both in the room. And splitting household chores is nice."
George nods. "It'll be strange seeing him in person."
Dream laughs and turns his head to make eye contact for a second. "Is it weird seeing me in person?"
"A bit. But we've done a lot together, so I'm more used to being around you. It will still be weird to be living with both of you for a month."
"Yeah. It's gonna be fun, though."
"Duh!"
Dream closes the car door and walks around to the trunk, lifting it and starting to take out George's bags.
"Wow, what a gentleman," George remarks, and Dream simply smiles, winking.
Dream unlocks the door and rolls George's suitcase in, calling to Sapnap, "George is here!"
Sapnap, who's chilling on the couch, turns to the two of them.
"What's up, man?" he says, going to George and giving him a bro hug.
"Not much," George replies. "Hyped to be hanging out with you guys for a month!"
"Hell yeah," Sapnap enthuses. "It's gonna be sick."
Dream turns and sees George's grin and he swears his heart skips a beat. George has a nice smile.
"How long do I have guest privileges?" George jokes.
"A week if you're lucky," Dream says from near the door.
The three of them chuckle for a moment, then help George move his stuff into Dream's room. Dream and Sapnap live together in a 2 bedroom apartment so George will sleep on the couch, but his clothing and stuff will be in Dream's room. George won't be staying over too long so he doesn't have his desktop pc, but he brought a gaming laptop, and they get to work setting it up after his bags are in Dream's room. The dining room - not used for actually dining because kitchens work just fine - is the recording room. Sapnap and Dream record at different times unless there's a collab, but they both spent the majority of their time in the workspace, so there's a black blanket between their desks. Not the best solution, but they were both pretty broke when they moved in and it still works, so why mess with what works? Dream's side is big enough for George to fit his laptop and desk in with, although it may be a bit of a tight squeeze.
After everything is set up George gives Dream a sweet, sincere smile, and Dream feels something confusing in his chest. He puts a hand on George's shoulder, and it stays a few moments longer than it should.
Hours pass in a flash, somehow going from 1 p.m. when George arrived, to 7 when it's time for dinner. George started yawning around 6:30, too, so he'll probably head to bed soon after. They have a couple of boxes of Annie's macaroni & cheese - shells and white cheddar - and Dream and Sapnap cook it up. George happily watches from the kitchen table, yawns becoming longer and more frequent.
The three of them sit and eat, Sapnap and George are talking about something, but Dream can't focus. He's looking at George, trying to decipher what feelings he has towards his close friend. Dinner wraps up quickly though, and before Dream knows it George is getting ready for bed.
Dream lays a blanket across George and the couch and George grins up at him softly. Dream runs a hand through his hair, eyeing the guy who has taken up nearly all his attention.
"Goodnight Georgey," Sapnap says, ruffling George's hair like an older brother.
"G'night," George murmurs, hands pulling the blanket towards his face.
Sapnap walks over to his door but Dream stays a moment longer, examining George's face.
"What time is it in London?" Dream asks.
"'Round midnight," George replies.
"Alright, goodnight George."
"Goodnight Dream-" George yawns again, "-sleep tight."
George falls asleep almost immediately after, and Dream scrutinizes George like his peaceful face has the answer to the question of why Dream feels weird around him. And why it's a good weird. The truth hits Dream a moment later. He knocks quietly on Sapnap's door, and when Sapnap opens it, Dream tells his roommate his discovery.
"I have feelings for George."
Sapnap raises an eyebrow. "Romantic feelings?"
"Yeah."
"Nice, dude. You gonna ask him out?"
"No way, I don't wanna mess anything up."
"He clearly likes you back, but whatever, man."
"No way."
"You're both super obvious. Anyway, goodnight. See you tomorrow."
"Yeah, goodnight."
Dream sneaks another look at George before he goes to his room and feels affection bubbling up in his chest. He smiles, feeling warmth in his cheeks. He enters his room and sits on his bed, really letting the fact that he has feelings for George sit in. Yeah, he definitely has feelings.
A/N = yayy new story. my writing environment is really weird bc it's
1) it's midnight
2) I'm very hungry for Annie's macaroni & cheese
3) I've been listening to a broken tornado siren video for around 2 hours. (google Chicago Tornado Siren [10 Hour Seamless Loop] and you can creep yourself out)
and 4) I keep hearing what sounds like someone opening the door to my bedroom so that's pretty creepy
I also have a poorly drawn sketch of Dream and Sapnap's apartment if anyone wants to see
alright see you guys soon in the next chapter
