The Great Tomb of Nazarick. The mere name sent a shiver down your spine. You counted your blessings that you had been one of its creators. You and a group of friends decided to work together and build an entire monster based guild in the dmmorpg Yggdrasil. It was harsh being a monster in Yggdrasil. Players would hunt you down relentlessly. You, along with 8 other players had initially created a clan named Nine's Own Goal. Led by Touch Me, you traveled the virtual world protecting monsters, fighting humans and becoming quite prominent. When you started recruiting new members, Touch Me dissolved the clan and started the guild. The guild grew in size and infamy as time went on. Ainz Ooal Gown, the guilds official name, had even ranked in the top 5 guilds at one point. There were 42 of you at the guilds peak. You got along with most of the other guild members. Except that bastard Momonga. Touch Me had made him the leader of Ainz Ooal Gown. He wasn't a bad guy, he just thought he was your superior since he was a magic caster and you were a monk. Aside from the class difference, you were both the same level and both were undead. He was a skeleton and you were a mummy. You liked the idea of undead, but wanted to be able to appear and function as human if desired. With the mummy's ability to sap life from other players, you were able to maintain a human appearance. You and Momonga had fought on multiple occasions. Lucky for both of you, the other guild members would break it up if it went too far. You sighed as you looked around the empty guild hall. It was the last day of the game being available, since the servers were being shut down. Momonga was the last one here other than you. He looked at you and waved. Over the years you had worked on the guild, you got to know each other better and were actually good friends now. Fierce rivals, but good friends.
"Pretty crazy, huh?" You said with a smile. Momonga let out a sigh filled with disappointment.
"Yeah, I can't believe it's almost over." You looked to the seat next to you and rolled your eyes. It belonged to Yamaiko, a player you had grown fond of over the years. You had talked outside the game and even tried to make plans to meet in real life, but it never worked out. Someone's schedule would change or an excuse would be made. You couldn't help but appreciate the forthright battle stylings of the melee brawler and her charming personality.
"Sorry it never worked out Agamemnon-san." Momonga offered sheepishly. He must have caught you staring.
"It's no big deal..." You trailed off as you stood from your seat.
"Looks like we're almost out of time... want to take one more trip around the guild?" You asked with a smirk. He nodded as he too stood. Before he made his way to you, he approached a few of the prominent npc's in the room and beckoned for them to follow. Their programming kicked in as the follower protocol was initiated.
"Sentimental are we?" You chided as Momonga rolled his non existent eyes. Down on the 12th floor of Nazarick you had your own area with which you created a small civilization of fish people, Deep Ones. You had always been fascinated with the works of H.P. Lovecraft, and jumped at the chance to design a people inspired by him.
"I'm sure my fishy boys are just fine." You said chuckling a bit. Momonga lead the way as we traveled around Nazarick. We reminisced as we walked, reliving all of the great memories we shared here. We finally made it to the throne room. Momonga had picked up more NPCs by the time we opened the door to the massive room.
"All the Battle Maids and Their leader Sebas. Pretty cool crew." You said with a genuine sense of pride. You hadn't personally made them, but they all looked awesome. Momonga made his way to the throne and sat down. The head floor guardian Albedo stood by his side. You couldn't help but notice Momonga fiddling with her settings.
"Hey! How are you even doing that?" You asked with a look of skepticism. He looked up nervously and followed by a smile emoji appearing above his head.
"With this!" He said revealing the staff of Ainz Ooal Gown. You scoffed at it as you remembered only he could wield it. It was specifically designed for the leader of Nazarick which was technically Momonga.
"Seems like an abuse of power, but I guess Tabula-san isn't here anyways." You shrugged and made your way next to momonga to look at Albedo's settings.
"Lets see...she's a bitch? Why Tabula..." you trailed off as you read the bottom line.
"She's desperately in love with Momonga....HAHAHAHAHAHA!" You cackled loudly which you could only assume made Momonga embarrassed.
"What? There's no harm in it! It was just to see if I could do it...that's all." He said trying to cover his tracks.
"Sure thing." you said still laughing. Momonga was a bit peeved now as he stood up.
"We have 5 minutes left, one final duel?" He offered cockily. It shut you up as you turned to him with a sly look.
"Oh you're on bone head." You took a few steps back and took a fighting stance based on the Iron Fist fighting style. While you had specced most heavily into Iron Fist in the game, you were capable of so much more. He pointed the staff of Ainz Ooal Gown at you and launched off a series of fireballs, which you easily swatted away.
"Come on Momonga! You can do better than that!" You shouted as you sent air shockwaves created by your punches at him. A magical barrier stopped the forceful gusts, but wasn't enough to stop your full body from smashing through the barrier and sending Momonga flying backwards. He cast Fly on himself as he hovered in the air.
"Maximise Magic...Reality Slash!" he cried out as a void like crescent blade flew at you. You barely dodged a lethal blow as it tore through your leather armor and left a gash on your character.
"Fine. Greater Resistance, Divine Shield, Magic Nullification, Steadfast, Tenacity Boost, Iron Skin." Each buff applied as you called it out. Momonga fired another Reality Slash, but this time you caught it bare handed.
"I've been preparing for you. You'll have to put more into it than that!" The magic shattered in your hand as you ran forward at blistering speeds. Momonga raised his hand as you slammed your fist into his chest. It impacted Momonga, but not before he could cast Body of Engulfment Baryl, a counter spell that triggered a titanic explosion between the both of you. The impact created a massive blinding flash as both you and Momonga went flying into opposite walls. You both let out a sigh as you closed your eyes.
"What a time... thank you Momonga." You said as you watched the timer tick to 12:00 am. You opened your eyes to see that you were still in game. You raised a brow of confusion as you hopped out of the wall. You noticed Momonga do the same as he made his way to the throne. You followed suit as you stroked your chin in thought.
"Maybe they pushed back the time?" You asked, but Momonga shook his head.
"I don't think so, I can't contact a GM." It was only then that you noticed all of the NPCs looking at you. Their expressions were one's of fear, shock, and admiration.
"Momonga." You said shifting his attention to the NPCs.
"Is there a problem my lords?" Albedo said in a prim and proper voice.
"Oh no issue Albedo, carry on." You said with a smile.
"Wait." Momonga turned to you and you both shared a look of surprise.
"Unprovoked NPC interaction?"
