TRIGGER WARNING: implied violence, heavy mention of suicide and drug use.

As the children took out from their pockets different knives, blade, and pipes, the droid's light flashed red.

"Enemy detected. Engaging."

"Run!" (YN) said. She and Tadashi ran away from the children and they heard the droid's guns firing off. They didn't hear any screams but they just ran as fast as they could away from the scene. As bad as they felt about the children, they knew that it was them or the kids. There was no compromise. There was no trying to save them.

Neither of them tried to think about it. They tried to just pretend it wasn't happening so it wouldn't haunt them later. Their main focus was to run.

They were alone again at last. They found an empty, abanoned shanty and decided to inhabit it for the time being. Tadashi started a fire in the center of the room where a fire had burned once before. (YN) grabbed blankets for them to share as they sat beside the fire.

"I guess I should tell you now," (YN) said.

"Take your time," Tadashi encouraged. He wrapped an arm around (YN)'s shoulders as she nodded.

"After my roommates died and family went missing, I went through this weird grieving period. I was really depressed for a while and then eventually I reached this point where I wanted revenge but had no idea how I could get it. But I was obsessed with the idea of it, y'know? Like, if I ever found out who killed them, I'd... I didn't even know what I would have tried to do," (YN) explained. "And then an opportunity came up. Turns out my roommate who they targeted, Charlaine, had a cousin named Kingsley who was in a gang. It was a bunch of natives and they had figured out who shot up my house. So Kingsley came to me and told me that I could help them if I wanted to, and I'd be able to with whatever extent I was comfortable with, whether that be just helping them locate them or actually kill them, and I... I took it. I started hanging out with this gang of native Islamoraicans and Charlaine's cousin and I helped them find the guys that killed Charlaine. We went on different stakeouts and we even lured them out different ways. Because I don't have any native in me, I even went to their door one day pretending to be a friggin' missionary just so we could get a profile of the house. The dumb-ass good ol' boys were stupid enough to let me in so I was able to draft a map of the house and everything. So the guys eventually broke in their house, killed them, and they stole all their money and I got some of the cut for helping them locate 'em and for getting in the house. And I thought that after that, I'd be out, y'know? I thought it would be a one time thing, but it wasn't."

Tadashi frowned. "What do you mean by it wasn't a one time thing?"

"Next thing I knew, I was their little mole," (YN) said. "They kept using me to do some of the inside work to help them prep for an attack on the good ol' boys since none of them could, and I kept doing it because I was getting paid well and I was scared of what would happen if i said no. I got way too deep too quick and I wanted out so bad. I wanted to leave the island, but with the increase in violent crime they actually shut off all transportation to Islamoraica both in and out of the island. I couldn't leave," (YN) revealed. "The crime was so bad that rumor had it that the mainland didn't even know. A lot of it was just thrown under the rug."

"I remember hearing about the lockdown," Tadashi said. "A few months ago."

"Since I couldn't leave Islamoraica and I couldn't get away from the gang without risking my life either from the other gang members or from their enemies, I only saw one way out," (YN) revealed. "One of the guys was a huge drug addict. And I'm not talking about pot and getting high every now and then. This guy was into some heavy shit. Now mind you, I've never even touched drugs before in my life before this moment, but what I did..." (YN) paused and took a deep, shaky breath. "I intentionally overdosed. I stole some of his stuff, whatever it was, and I took all of it. It wasn't as quick of a death as I thought it would be, that's for sure. In the movies and stuff when a character has a drug overdose, they're usually dead within minutes. It's more like hours," (YN) said. "Kingsley found me and I was already as good as dead; I couldn't even communicate. I was conscious but practically a tweaked out vegetable. They put me on life support for a little bit in the hospital but they pulled the plug to put me out of my misery."

(YN) didn't even realize that she had been crying until she felt Tadashi's thumbs wipe the tears from her cheeks. He then cupped her face with his hands and brought his lips to her forehead. When his lips left her forehead, his arms wrapped around her and held her close to him.

"You weren't weak," Tadsahi said. He left a long kiss on the top of her head. "Not at all."

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner," (YN) said. It was muffled in Tadashi's chest but he still heard her clearly.

"There's nothing to apologize for," Tadashi said as he began to rub her back. "I'm not leaving you, (YN). I promise you that."

"As awful as this place is and as awful as it is that we died," (YN) said, "I'm really glad I met you."

Tadashi smiled a wide, bright smile. He kissed the top of her head again and nuzzled his face into her hair. "I'm really glad I met you too, (YN)."
