[season one, episode three]

--

A few days later, the group had gained new information about Elijah's whereabouts.

Rebekah found where Elijah was being kept, but, of course, she was forced to forget the location by the witch Marcel was holding hostage in the attic. According to Rebekah, she was the most powerful witch she had ever met, which made them realize she was the secret weapon Marcel had against the witches.

This led to them cornering Sophie Devereaux at the house in hopes of getting information about Elijah out of her.

"It's very simple. We need you to perform a teeny, tiny locator spell to help us find our brother." Rebekah stated as she walked in front of Sophie, who was sitting on the couch in the study of the Mikaelson home.

Klaus was next to Rebekah while Lily stood near the back of the room. She refused to stay outside with Hayley, considering she wanted find Elijah just as much as they did.

"Witches who practice magic in this town get caught and they get killed." Sophie replied, shaking her head as she looked up at the vampires in front of her.

"Yes. About that, it seems you left out a crucial detail when we made our deal. Marcel's secret weapon, they way he knows when a witch is using magic." Klaus replied, sitting down in the chair across from Sophie as he spoke.

"Girl about yea high, cute as a button, anger issues." Rebekah explained, looking over at Sophie as she took a seat in the other chair across from her.

"Davina?" Sophie asked, her face falling slightly in realization. "Where have you seen her?" She asked, causing all of them to perk up, realizing she knew about the little witch.

"I don't know. The little brat erased my memory right after she threw me out of a window with her bloody mind." Rebekah replied, her lips pursing as she thought of her encounter with Davina.

"Let me cut to the chase." Klaus cut in, shifting in his seat slightly. "Davina has Elijah. You witches, I assume, want to get Davina away from Marcel. We don't know where she is. Ergo, we need magic." He explained, causing Sophie to shake her head quickly.

"Davina would sense it." Sophie replied, to which Lily sighed out softly and walked over to the group from where she was standing by the wall.

"Which is why we thought, maybe, if another witch was to perform a much more powerful spell at the same time.. she wouldn't sense you." Lily explained, looking at Sophie, who still looked hesitant.

"I know you mean Katie, but she doesn't deserve to die." Sophie replied, swallowing the lump that had formed in her throat.

"Sophie Devereaux." Klaus interjected, slamming his hand down as he got up to sit on the table in front of the witch. "You are in no position to be so principled. You can't win a war without a few strategic losses, no matter how regrettable they may be." He explained, looking directly at Sophie as he spoke. "How many times have the vampires been one step ahead, known something they shouldn't? Your sister, executed in the public square for practicing magic. You knew she'd be caught. Did she even attempt to flee?"

"She was caught hiding in a cargo hold of a freighter before it set sail down the Mississippi." Sophie replied, her voice quiet as she thought of her dead sister.

"And who, pray tell, of Marcel's valued inner circle manages his business at the docks?" Klaus asked, trying to negotiate with the witch.

"Katie's boyfriend, Thierry." Sophie responded, knowing exactly what she had to do. She knew she couldn't get out of it; she would have to sacrifice her friend.
