The rest of the classes before lunch which was right after 4th period went by slowly. Isla eventually gave up on even going, the stares of everyone bothering her to much. She slipped out towards the beginning of fourth period and hid in the bathroom.

Isla pulled her phone out of her pocket and turned it on. Her phone had been spammed with a bunch of messages that made her smile. Het best friend Eleni never let her go long without checking up on her. She opened her text messages and scrolled through them to read the more important ones, which always had proper grammar and spelling unlike Eleni's usual way of texting.

'Don't forget to drink water.' 'Don't get in trouble.' 'I miss you already.' 'Pay attention in class.' Those were just a few of Eleni's texts that she had received today.

'Okay mother hen😁' Isla texted back as she rolled her eyes internally.

'Why are you texting me? Shouldn't you be in class.' Eleni texted back quickly.

'I couldn't stay there, people were staring😟' Isla texted. 'People have been staring all day,' she added.

'Poor baby. I'm sorry people were staring at you,' Eleni texted back. 'Don't you usually like when people stare at you Ms. Class clown?' Eleni asked.

'Not the way everyone here has been staring at me,' Isla replied. 'But besides that I made a friend😀' she smiled softly.

"Who? Tell me what you know about her. Is she a good influence?' Eleni texted back. Isla rolled her eyes as she sighed. "Can't tell her anything," she murmured sarcastically.

'Yes she's a good influence...so far. She's the principal daughter's and her names Alicia,' Isla texted back.

'Alicia Black?' Eleni questioned.

'Yeah...how'd you know?' Isla texted back. "That's strange. Eleni knowing someone from outside the school district," she murmured to herself.

'She's bad news Is, I don't trust her,' Eleni texted back after a moment.

'Well I do. She's the only person that's talked to me today besides the principal and staff. Plus she likes my drawings...I think,' Isla responded.

'Well be careful Is, if you trust her then I suppose I can't stop you from hanging out with her,' Eleni messaged.

'She's nice Nini, I promise. Don't you trust me?' Isla asked as she frowned.

'I do babes, I do. Just don't let her to close alright?' Eleni replied.

'I won't,' Isla promised with a small smile.

'Alright, good. Bye, I have to pay attention in Chem if I want to pass,' Eleni responded.

'Bye👋' Isla messaged back before putting her phone up. She bit her bottom lip as she stared at the wall, wondering when the bell would ring.

As if her prayers were answered, the bell rang only moments after. Isla got up, opening the stall door while slinging her backpack onto her back.

Isla wandered the hallways towards the cafeteria. She entered, frowning when it seemed like everyone was staring at her again. Her eyes darted around to find Alicia and once she did, she internally sighed in relief. Isla made her way over slowly.

Isla bit her bottom lip as she sat down across from Alicia. "You okay?" Alicia asked as she frowned slightly.

"Everyone keeps staring at me and I hate it," Isla said. "It's not the good staring whatsoever," she whispered.

"I'm sorry, our town isn't used to new people," Alicia said. "You gonna go get lunch?" She asked.

"Nah, I'm not hungry," Isla shook her head as she frowned. "Hey do you know anyone name Eleni? From the Northern Alabaster area," she asked.

"Yes I do if you're speaking of Eleni Nightingale," Alicia grimaced slightly. "Why do you ask?" She questioned.

"She's my best friend. Northern Alabaster was were I lived before here and Eleni seemed kind of concerned I befriended you," Isla said.

"Yes well I didn't have a reputation for being nice when I was in middle school and word got around. My mom straightened that out pretty quickly once she found out," Alicia said as she went back to eating her lunch.

"Oh. Why's Eleni still concerned? You seem really nice," Isla said as she smiled.

"Eleni tends to hold grudges," Alicia shrugged with a small sigh. "That's not going to affect our friendship is it?" She asked.

"No," Isla shook her head. "Of course not," she smiled. "I like you and I think we'll be good friends," she said.

"I think we will be too. And don't worry about the staring I'll take care of it," Alicia said.

"Alright, thank you," Isla smiled.

"You're welcome," Alicia said. "Hey give me your phone real quick," she said quietly. Isla pulled her phone out and unlocked it, sliding it over to Alicia. Alicia took it and typed in something. "There's my number if you ever want to text me," Alicia said as she slid the phone back to Isla. "Nice background by the way," she smirked.

Isla blushed as she looked away. Her background was a baby picture of her with wild looking hair. "Oh shush," she muttered as she put her phone back up.

"I don't think I will shush," Alicia said in a joking tone. She stuck her tongue out playfully making Isla giggle. "C'mon there's only five minutes of lunch left and I think we have next hour together. You have science right?" Alicia asked.

"Yeah," Isla nodded as she got up with Alicia. "Lead the way," she said with a smile, following after her.

"I always lead honey," Alicia said as she looked back at Isla with a playful grin.
