I hold out my hands to him, titling my head to the side. He chuckles and walks over, taking my hand. He slips down on the bed and wraps his big strong arms around me. Then let's out a big sigh as I'm squeezed.

“So dad? Will you?”.

“I'll have to talk to your mom about it first”.

I pull away.

“Dad!” I smack his arm. “I did not just summarize my childhood problems for an 'I'll have to talk to your mom about it first' answer!”.

He laughs and presses a long kiss on my temple.

“Goodnight” he whispers and rises to his feet.

“But dad!”.

“Night princess” he calls wheeling the first aid kit out.

I groan and sink in the bed, slamming my book over my face.

“Hey son” I hear dad's voice.

“Father” Max replies.

Then the door clicks. Footsteps approach me, then the bed sinks in beside me. The book is lifted slightly from my face and his blue eyes radiate into my brown ones. He had a smug look on his face.

“What?” I ask.

“Nothing” he says, lifting the book off my face.

He tosses a duffel bag somewhere on the floor.

“I got you something”.

I sit up and he holds out a huge gift bag. I eye him suspiciously.

“Go on. Open it” he pushes it towards me.

“What's in it?”.

“A present obviously” he says in a 'duh' tone.

I tuck a hair away from my face and take out the fancy wrapper covering the top of the present. A long green tail pops out.

“I got it for when you turned 18”.

I pull out the rest of the gift. It was a plush green dinosaur. I break into a smile.

“Aww Maxy...” I drag.

“You like it?”.

“I love it. Thank you so much” I say hugging him. “I love you” I add.

He laughs.

“I know”.

I hold it to my face and inhale the new smell.

“But I didn't turn 18 here. I was still in Ilea”.

Being cheated on severally.

“I know. And I planned to mail it to you... but I figured I'd give it another shot on your 19th...”.

He trails off and ends up looking away.

“... but I slept through my 19th birthday. Classic sleep monster... am I right?”.

He looks at me, eyes filled with a mixture of regret and fear. I touch his cheek.

“Hey...” I whisper not breaking eye contact. “... it's over. I'm here now. And I'm not going anywhere ever again”.

He pulls me into a hug and I throw my arms around his neck.

“I was so scared another favorite sister was leaving me alone with our insane one”.

I laugh, rolling my head over to peck him.

“Well we're stuck together” I say as he pulls away.

I hold up the dinosaur in his face.
