a guide to dara's dancing story.

everyone in korea is aware of the status daeun holds in idol dancers; she's considered one of the best female dancers of kpop. however, this wasn't always the case.

most new armys are not aware of how daeun went from being an underrated dancer to an icon within idols.

similar to jimin, daeun has a background in contemporary and was a ballet dancer for almost ten years. during her trainee days, daeun was acknowledged for her powerful vocals more so than her dancing.

however, due to the nature of the planned group by bang hyung sik, it being a hip hop group, she was taught to rap to be able to fit with the rapline, while simultaneously working on improving her vocals and technique. her dancing was completely pushed aside.

after she was announced as part of bangtan soyeondan's lineup, fans were excited to learn bighit was going to be debuting a co-ed group and were expecting for more females to be revealed. however, when that wasn't the case and people figured out she was the only female member, social media went on a rampage and people started cancelling the group even before it had debuted. there were a lot of mixed opinions during that period of time, however, most fans were curious as to what was so special about daeun if she was chosen to be in a male group. her official positions during that time were lead rapper and vocalist; main dancer was nowhere to be seen.

in fact, during debut days and all the way up to the song i need u, daeun was always seen as the 'visual' or 'the girl with the pretty face', not even being acknowledged for her rapping, much less her singing or dancing. the switch started during the most beautiful moments in life pt.1 era, in which fans started to really notice the immense talent daeun had for dancing, as well as singing. it was also during this period that, as requested by the members and choreographers, daeun was rightfully given her main dancer title.

since then, daeun has been recognized for her sharp and fluid movements, amazing body control and being able to keep up with bangtan's insane choreographies; over the years she has built a lot of stamina to get through concerts and award show performances, however, still to this day she struggles a lot with it and has to recieved canned oxygen by the bts staff everytime she gets off of the stage, panting for air on the verge of passing out.

when it comes to ranking bts' dancing within the group, daeun is usually ranked in second, third and fourth place. jhope, jimin and sometimes jungkook are the ones that rank higher than her. however, if we only talk about female dancers, daeun's first place is almost guaranteed.

during the past years former dancers and choreographers have made multiple analysis on daeun's dancing and her style. people always end up in awe and praising her for her body control. she is an overall amazing dancer.
