CHAPTER 27: Patching Up

<> Chrissy <>

I took a deep breath and turned around. Six pairs of eyes stared right back at me. Whitney and her two friends' shocked ones, Evanna and Will's neutral expression, Paul's pleased one. Apparently he did not know what he had gotten me into. But it was not his fault, I supposed. I could only blame myself for not telling him about my DJ identity being a secret.

"Wow. Chrissy, is that really you?" Whitney asked, staring at me in pure amazement and shock. Her eyes were wide as she surveyed me from head to toe.

I nodded, not trusting my voice.

"Oh my god. You looked so... wow. And you're a DJ? Why didn't you say so?"

I just smiled. Because I had absolutely no idea what to say.

"You didn't know?" Evanna suddenly commented, her voice sounding bored.

"No. Wait, you knew? How do you know her?" Whitney turned to her cousin accusingly.

"We had a little... conflict," she replied while glaring at me.

"Conflict?" Whitney echoed.

"Yeah. Over my boyfriend."

"Who's your boyfriend?"

Evanna slid her arm into Will's. "Him."

I groaned, knowing what was going to happen. Whitney's eyes flashed. "Since when? He's mine!"

Will looked uncomfortable as the two cousins started arguing over him, but he did nothing. I would have laughed at their ridiculous possesiveness over a guy, but I was still recovering from the shock of my identity being revealed. Then Paul had to say something.

"Wait, isn't that Chrissy's boyfriend?"

I could have just strangled him then and there. I shot Paul a killer look and he held up his hand in guiltiness when he realised his mistake.

The two girls now switched their target to me, both glaring at me. Even Whitney, who seemed so friendly a minutes ago, could have competed with Evanna for the best glare. She really was possessive over her guy.

"Look," Will suddenly said. "I'm nobody's girlfriend, okay? I'm not interested in anyone currently."

Evanna and Whitney switched their gazes to him again, both fighting for his attention. As for me, I just stood there shakily, taking in Will's words. He was not interested in anyone. Anyone.

Even me.

Pain tugged at my heart, making my eyes well up with tears despite telling myself to stay strong. I blinked back the tears and cursed myself for being so weak. Since when was I so head over heels over a guy? Especially over someone who had hurt me so much in the past.

But I knew that deep down, I wanted to be together with him more than anything. Screw the past. Screw Evanna and Whitney.

If being with him was really what my heart desired, then I would try my very best to make myself happy.

After all, didn't I deserve that?

I clenched my fist in resolve and tried to block out the noise from beside me. I would have to wait till he was alone to talk to him.

"Chrissy?" I looked up to see Paul looking at me, concerned.

"Sorry," he apologised.

"It's okay. It wasn't your fault."

"I really didn't know you've been keeping your identity as a secret. Are they going to come after you or something?" He grimaced.

"No. I just... I don't know," I admitted. "I'm so confused right now."
