"i wish i were..."

"so basically you're like a matchmaker?" max asked el after she explained everything with michelle and steven.

"matchmaker?" el squinted.

"yeah, you know, like someone who gets people together." max elaborated.

"oh." el nodded. "i guess i am a matchmaker

max smiled at the brunette girl.

"i heard what happened with you and lucas." el lowered her voice as she looked over at the four boys.

"whatever, i don't care anymore. i should've known from the beginning that he was an asshole, but now i do." max shrugged.

"maybe he is an asshole, but i know you still care about him." el rested her chin on her knee.

"not anymore." max rolled her eyes.

eleven felt a little happy when she heard that max didn't care about lucas as anymore.

"how different is it from here?" lucas asked.

"i think it's really different. i hate it so much there, ugh, it's terrible. the people at that school are too much and too over the top." will
explained.

"at least you made friends." dustin reminded.

"sure, but it's not the same, and it never will be." will concluded.

the four boys sat in silence for a couple of seconds until will spoke up again.

"i heard about you and max, lucas. i'm sorry." will apologized.

"it doesn't matter, she's just some girl, i'll get over it." lucas muttered.

"dude, she isn't just some girl. you know you love her." mike pointed out.

"no, i don't, not anymore." lucas insisted.

"if you say so." dustin murmured.

the party hung out for a few more hours, until it was time for them to go home and time for el, mike, and will to get ready for bed.

will was wearing mike's sweater that he gave him, along with a pair of sweatpants.

"nice sweater, where'd you get it?" mike joked.

"i got it from some idiot boy." will joked back and they laughed a bit.

"hey, can i show you something upstairs?" mike asked.

"sure."

mike grabbed will's arm and pulled him all the way up to mike's room. will looked around and saw that it was still the same, until he saw something new in the picture frame beside mike's bed.

"is that—?" will started.

"—your drawing? yeah." mike finished.

will also saw that the same picture of them they used to be on mike's desk was now also beside his bed.

"you framed it." will smiled as he looked back at the drawing.

"yeah, because, you mean so much to me." mike whispered and pecked the boy.

"we should probably go back downstairs to the basement and try to get some sleep." will offered and mike nodded in agreement.

they went downstairs and el decided to build a little tent and sleep in it just like she used to back in '83.

"hey, you remember that tent i built you?" mike smirked.

"yes, it was a nice tent." el smiled.

the boys then got blankets and pillows and cuddled up on the couch together.

"goodnight, boys." el yawned.

"night, el." they replied.

"goodnight, mike." will whispered.

"goodnight, will." mike whispered and kissed the boy's head and eventually fell asleep.
