The O.W.L.s were approaching. Sage and Gracelyn found themselves studying for Study of Ancient Runes in the library during their free class.

It was a chance for them to rekindle their friendship after Gracelyn found herself absolutely smitten with Remus. She was working toward not being so smitten with him, but it was tough. Chocolate reminded her of him, and she was surrounded by chocolate during the O.W.L.s because it stimulated the brain.

Sage's left hand rested on Gracelyn's thigh, occasionally twitching when she moved around. Sage was focused on translating runes, but she was skilled at multitasking. Her eyes darted between the runes and Gracelyn's lips.

It had only been two days since Sage proposed a kissing agreement between the two of them. To her surprise, Gracelyn agreed. Sage knew the consequences of what would happen when it ended because she knew it would. Gracelyn wasn't in it for a relationship. She was in it to forget about someone, and Sage was okay with that because she was in it to get closer to Gracelyn.

Gracelyn pulled Spellman's Syllabary closer to her in order to find the correct runes and its translations. She huffed, clearly annoyed. The runes were beginning to morph into one in her mind. She was slowly going insane. She kept mixing up Ehwaz and Eihwaz, and she prayed it wasn't on the Study of Ancient Runes O.W.L. exam because she knew she would get it wrong.

"Hey," whispered Gracelyn, eyes slowly moving toward Sage, "is Ehwaz 'partnership' or 'defense?' "

"Pretty sure Ehwaz is partnership," answered Sage, now ignoring her own work to pay attention to Gracelyn.

Gracelyn's eyebrows furrowed in. "Are you sure?"

Sage's eyebrows furrowed in. "Well, now that you doubt me, I'm starting to doubt myself. Get me that syllabary."

Gracelyn slid it over to Sage. She hoped Sage's eyes weren't morphing the runes into one another like hers were doing.

"Yeah, Ehwaz means 'partnership' and Eihwaz means 'defense,' " answered Sage, confidently.

"Thank you!" chirped Gracelyn, tugging the syllabary back in front of her before writing a few more translations.

Sage watched Gracelyn carefully. She was sure she wasn't in love with Gracelyn, but she knew she liked her to an extent.

Gracelyn wasn't used to anything remotely romantic with other girls, so she was shyer around Sage than she was with Remus. It made Sage swell up with a sort of pride because she had an effect on Gracelyn that Remus didn't have.

She knew she shouldn't have had any expectations, but she wanted Gracelyn to drown her sorrows in anyone or anything but Remus Lupin because Sage realized that she disliked him with her heart and soul.
