Narrator's pov

-

The ocean breathed, her surface rising and falling with rhythmic ease. The waves became her pulse, the echo of the souls she kept safe in her cradle of brine

Melody gripped the rails of the yatch, her eyes looking out over to the sky above that was turning a little too dark for her liking, especially since they were heading in the direction that seemed to be darker than the rest of the ocean

"Are you sure it's safe?" The girl shouted loud enough for the captain above on the top balcony to hear

The man rolled his eyes, but lowered his cap enough so that she wouldn't see his eyes. He could only thank the heavens that she never came to his quarters, that way she wouldn't smell the sickening sharp scent of rum on her lips that drenched his overgrown beard

His vision was so blurry that he couldn't tell day from night but the man knew how to lie like his life depended on it

And in this situation, it really did

His fingers pressed against the buzzer that allowed his voice to echo through a speaker to the main balcony

"Yes Ms, I'm telling you that I've travelled this route back and forth for the past three years. Don't worry about a little storm" He chuckled before releasing his finger off the button

The lacy waves were a drumbeat that echoed through her heart, the breeze blew the tension right out of her bones and all the while the birds arc above, masters of the salty updrafts flew away from the dark sky, heading in the opposite direction of the yatch

"Do I have to remind you how important it is that we reach on time Mason!?" She hissed

"Don't worry ma'am, we're right on schedule" The drunk fish said

"We better be, or else the first thing that leaves this boat the second we dock will be your paycheck" she spat once more

At this point, the Captain wasn't even paying attention. The man rolled his eyes and gripped his silver flask that was stationed into his inner pocket

But his blurry vision and clumsiness collided as one, making the silver flask fall from his fingers and land on the ground

With his other hand on the wheel, he leaned down to collect the flask

"MASON WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING" Melody screamed

The yatch had started to lean just as the man. He was so busy struggling to pick up his liquor that he hadn't realized he was leaning the entire boat to the right. Everything started to slide, chairs turned over on their sides and glided down the ground, slamming harshly into the side of the wall

Cups fell from its place, popping into the flat floor and rolling down to the corners of the wall

The next thing that came down was a table, pushing directly forward. The heavy table glided down its track, slamming directly into Mason's hand and knocking it off the wheel, pressing it harshly onto the jets, sending the yatch flying at full speed

Mason had travelled the route many times before, it was his own secret short cut he invented. Melody only hired him to take her over to Europe because he was the only person that knew of that short cut. He never told a soul, being too prideful or hated the thought of someone else travelling his route and making more pay off his idea

So he kept his route to himself. The girl was in a rush and paid him to do the job. He would usually take a sip or four from his flask before he departed the shore but this time he went over his limit. The only thing he knew was that if he stayed his imaginary line, they'd reach land. Even the slightest of turns could throw his direction off, especially a mile a turn. The ocean was clear, not a boulder in sight to give a mark. He only depended on his eyes and compass  during his short cut but he never told his passengers that
