Video of Dakota's floor routine. Please do not watch the girl because Dakota looks diffrernt. Watch the routine. It is done very well and I think Dakota's own would look best like this.
The days passed quickly. It was Friday already and I had just finished turning in my project for Science. All the cheerleaders were excited for this day to come, especially Sarah. At lunch today, it was all they could talk about.
I had practiced my gymnastics every afternoon after school in the near-by gmynastics center. Travis would drop me off there but I made sure that he didn't come with me. I wanted to focus and if he was there, I would do the opposite.
At first, I was a bit rusty but then I got into the hang of it. It felt natural after not performing a single flip since the last summer vacation. That was almost two months ago. The instructor who was teaching some little children to do gymnastics had seen me and decided to help me.
I counted down the seconds until the bell rang for lunch. The tryouts was being held during lunch. The bell rang. I grabbed my books and shoved them into my bag. Travis appeared next to me as I walked out the classroom.
"Ready for tryouts?" He asked.
I sighed, "Yeah. I hope I don't mess up."
Travis smiled, "You won't. I'm sure you are good."
I chuckled, "Well you'll know soon, won't you?"
"I just can't wait to see you." He stated sounding excited.
Travis wrapped his arms around me as we walked. I reached the gym. The gym was newly decorted with a spring floor, uneven bars, balance beam and a vault. Wow. They really wantd to test us.
Sarah smiled as she saw us come in. In the gym was most of the cheerleaders on the team and about twenty people that was powdering their hands and getting ready to tryout. My heart skipped a beat in fright. Travis squeezed my hand gently.
Travis took a seat on a bleacher. I went to the changing room to change into my gymnast clothes. About five minutes later, I re-entered the gym. Travis gave me an encouraging wave. I returned the wave.
Sarah walked to the center of the huge gym.
"Okay. Cheerleading is a team sport everyone has to work hard to get 1st place. People say it ain't a sport but we work just as hard as any other sport. It's so much fun! Girls just think that it is all about popularity, but it's not. You have to work really hard if you want to be good at cheerleading. A cheerleader isn't the prettiest girl or the most popular girl. She is a girl who loves to cheer and does it with her whole mind, heart, and soul. Practice are very important. How you practice is how you preform. So if you want to make the team, you need to be didicated and hardworking. In this team, we have a motto. It is 'Train, trust, try and triumph'." Sarah ended her speech.
Katerina came to the center to stand next to Sarah with a notepad in her hand.
"Right. So we got Whitney York first." Katerina announced before going back to the other cheerleaders who all held notepads. I guessed that those were the scorcing sheets.
A dark skinned girl with staraight black hair that was held tightly in a ponytail powdered her hands. She stepped onto the springboard and went to the uneven bars. She preformed a few swings, transitionals, circling and relaese moves. They were performed perfect but she ruined it when she landed. The landing was quite rough.
