“Hey, Rick, can you get the phone?” I was in the bathroom, and this was about the tenth time that phone rang.
“Sorry, honey, I'm your guest not your maid.” He called out loud.
“Rick! I'm in the bathroom!” I whined.
“It doesn't make any difference.” Rick answered. I could hear him chuckling.
"I know you're in my kitchen eating my butter cookies! Answer the phone or I'll tell the entire school about your precious collection of Twilight books that I found under your pillow!” I knew that would capture his attention.
“You know those are not mine. I was hiding them to make Alexis mad.”
“Yeah, save it for when your football buddies make fun of you, Vampboy!” I contain my laughter.
“I'm hurt. Best friends don't do that to each other. You know what? You are an evil child. Evil, I say!
“I know!” I exclaimed cheerfully.
Rick muttered a couple of profanities. “Fine, but I'm going to make you pay!”
“Hello, Sterling residence, this is Rick.”
I could hear him greeting the person on the phone. I am actually quite surprised he didn't greet the person with an inadequate comment like he usually does.
I went into my room, and grabbed a few DVDs to watch. As I descended the stairs, Rick had already hung up the phone.
“Who was it?” I asked nonchalantly. I was secretly hoping that, maybe, it could be my parents.
“It was Addison. She said she's having a sleepover, and wants you to be there tomorrow!” He said, trying not to laugh.
There goes my hopes down the drain.
“No way!” I exclaimed. There is no way I'm going to spend the night at Addison's house.
“Oh come on Camille, it's only one night.”
“That would probably be the longest night of my life too.” I am not taking any chances by going near that house at night. Addison's house is freaky.
“You can't say “no” this time.” He urged.
“But I don't want to! Please don't let her take me!” I begged.
“Oh my gosh, Cam! What the heck are you afraid of? That stuff is just made up. There is nothing abnormal happening at her house. That junk isn't true!"
“Lies! Those are lies!” I was panicking by now. I hate going to that house; I try avoiding it at all costs.
“Oh, is that right? I dare you to prove your point, sweetheart.” Rick challenged.
“Okay...well...one day I went to her house after school to finish our English project. We were in her room, when suddenly her mom called everyone to the living room. She was crying and saying she couldn't find little Allie. We searched the entire first floor, and the outside of the house. We knew she couldn't be in the second floor because she couldn't crawl upstairs by herself.” I paused to catch my breath.
“And?” He asked impatiently.
“We heard her calling Addison's name from one of the rooms on the second floor. We hurried up the stairs and found her locked up in one of the closets. She kept saying that the little boy carried her upstairs, and told her to stay quiet.” I finished. I was pretty freaked out by then, just remembering that day.
“Oh my gosh, yeah, that is so scary.” Rick said sarcastically.
“Hey! Its true. Her house is haunted! Why don't you believe me!”
“Camille, listen to yourself, you are being immature just by believing in that nonsense.” He smirked.
I hate when he plays that card. I do not get called immature.
“Catch!” I screamed. I threw all three DVDs at one time. I succeeded in hitting him in the head with all three of them.
“Ouch! What the hell was that for?” He yelled. I made a run for it, but I epically failed. He tackled me in less than half a second. I landed flat on my back with my best friend on top of me.
He narrowed his eyes, "Hmm...looks like you're being a very bad friend, Baby Cam." He smirked widely.
"Rick, you're being a big meanie by not believing me!" I pouted. "And get off!" I wiggled under him trying to get loose from his body squishing me.
"Nope. I'm not moving until you apologize for throwing those DVDs. It still hurts!" He whined.
"Well, I'm not apologizing! If you don't believe me when I say that Addison's house is haunted, then I'm not apologizing!" I pouted.
"Well, then I'm not moving. Aww! Baby Cam looks so cute when she pouts!" My best friend cooed.
"Meanie...I hate you!" I huffed.
“I love you too!" He grinned.
"You know, you're going to get tired from holding yourself up sooner or later." I said defiantly.
"I don't think so. I'm fifty times stronger than you, Baby Cam."
I didn't say anything, because truthfully, he's right. I'm weak. He always beats me at everything sports related. I wasn't exactly the sports kind. I'm more of an artistic being.
My thoughts were interrupted when there was a loud clashing sound coming from the kitchen. It sounded like the window shattering into a million pieces.
"Whoa. Did you hear that or was it just me?" I asked quietly.
"I definitely heard that."
We stood up quickly. Rick grabbed my hand and pulled me towards a corner in the living-room.
"Listen, stay here and don't move. I'll go see what that noise was." He whispered urgently.
"Shh. I'll be fine, just stay here." Rick commanded, while exiting the room.
I stayed paralyzed in that corner for what seemed like hours. I couldn't stand waiting there. If anything happened to my best friend, I would die. I couldn't hear a sound coming from the kitchen. Giving up on waiting for Rick to come back, I ran towards the kitchen. As I approached the room, I thought I could hear him talking with someone. But I had to be wrong... ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
