Summer Will Tell

Today was the day we were going to break into the coroner's office. Justin's leg was a bit better, so he was part of the operation. He'd just have to stay with Corey in the car and keep eyes on us through the spy cam Corey set up to help us navigate and stay hidden. Jess and I began gearing up from wearing black gloves and black masks and tying up our hair. We took off all our valuables and wore A1's for less detection. Corey got the code to the door and so the mission started. We had to be out in 45 minutes as cleaner and security did rounds. As we navigated our way through the office, I couldn't help but notice that Jess looked good in what she was wearing. Coughing out loud I shook my head of the thought. We were on a mission now was not the time to show my gay side.

Opening the room were all the Hux family was kept I walked straight over to Ruby's body. i however couldn't bare to see her body so took a detour to the filing cabinet so I could take pictures of the reports. Jess went to Logan's body and took some pictures so we could do our own review. Mr and Mrs Hux were seen next. We noticed that their necks had strangulation marks on them. It was unclear whether it was caused by asphyxiation of the hands or an item. Attempting to review Ruby's body was once I started at her feet. Immediately noticing some marks on her feet, I stifled a cry. I turned to her head instead. Drawing down the zip ever so slowly, her head had been shaved off like she suffered blunt force trauma of some kind. Fuck. That asshole has got some payback coming his way. Ruby was hurt the most. From scratches to deep cuts it was obvious she suffered the most. Jess put her hand on my shoulder in comfort. I released a breath I didn't know I was holding in. it had to be around 30 minutes in before Corey texted us that some security guards were coming our way. As panic was rising in us, we began to find a place to hide. Corey said there was no point and to just run. So that's what we did. With the files in my bag and the pictures secured we took of quick. Corey helped us navigate what direction to go in as we couldn't go the same way we came. Justin was waiting for us by the exit and as we left the building, he quickly shut it as we heard scuffles right behind us.

Placing my hands on my thighs I took in deep breaths. 'That was close' I remarked taking off my mask as we got into the car' 'Yeah, good thing we got eyes and ears all over' Jess replied smiling at Justin. Handing over our findings to Corey we took off and went back to my house, it was the only empty one.

'Ok so what exactly are these?' Corey said flicking through the files I took. 'It says here that Logan died first by gun shots to the chest and legs' hanging my head down in shame I couldn't believe that that was how he was killed. In such a way that he couldn't run nor cry for help. Corey resumed after taking a moment for himself and moved onto Mrs Hux. 'She was hit from the behind and was then strangled by a rope' 'That explains the marks on her neck' Jess replied. Moving onto Mr Hux Corey said: 'He was downstairs when he was killed. Believe it or not it was the goriest of them all. He was not only hit and shot at but was bet with that they described as a bat, gun and leg of a table. Beside him was a bat which we should assume was used to fight off the assailant but was used on him. He was facing the stairs so maybe he was running up to Mrs Hux.' That was a lot to take in. 'So, what we can assumed happened was: the assailant came in through the back door. Saw Mr Hux, killed him and then went to Logan's room and killed him. Now this part is tricky, did he go to Mrs Hux or Ruby first. We don't know where Ruby died as she only had broken stuff in her room.' 

'Ok so let's analyse Mrs Hux. The intruder burst into her room and hit her back. Maybe he heard shuffling in Ruby's room and went to go check it out. During that time Mrs Hux could've gone to the window to scream for help or at least attempted to but the stranger didn't let her get the chance before strangling her to death.' 'That would explain the blood streaks on the wall' 'Now Ruby.' 'Ok' I took the files and read out what was written. 'It says she had all types of abrasions to her legs and arms. It looks like self-harm but that is unlikely. The blood we saw splattered everywhere means that she was moved around a lot. Before or after we don't know.' 'Ok so now we have this information what do we do with it?' 'Take it to the police' That was the dumbest thing Justin has said. 'No dummy. I'm pretty sure they already know this. We'll have to find out what the timeline is and how exactly this murder was executed.' I retorted bitterly. 'That means going to the station' He responded. 'You don't say' I answered without hesitation. Everyone was looking at me like I had horns on my head. Looking down I muttered sorry and explained I was annoyed with what we had discovered and said an apology to Justin.

Corey suggested we all take a breather and come back in an hour. We all nodded. Before we went our separate ways, I noticed Justin pulled at Jess's hands and stopped her to have a conversation. Justin went to the kitchen, but I couldn't help but eavesdrop, so I turned to leave but stopped at the stairwell. Justin closed the door, so I came back up and stood by the door trying my hardest to hear.

'What is up with you?'

'Nothing why?'

'You've been distant.' I heard a sigh and guesses it was from Jess.

'Yeah I know. Maybe we should sit down' I don't want Justin on my bed let alone in my room WITH Jess. I couldn't do anything, so I just listened.

'I think we should break up'

'Why?'

'It's just not the same. I don't see you how I used to. We're both different. Not saying that change isn't good but it's just not good for us.'

'What does that even mean' I rolled my eyes at him.

'It means I don't love you anymore. In fact, there's someone else.'

'What?' From what I could make out Justin had got up and was now near the door.

'I'm sorry. Well not really. I know you cheated on my when we were on vacation' Oh shit.

Sighing in defeat Justin retorted: 'How did u find out?' Was that really his only answer? What a dick.

'Seriously?' When he didn't answer she said: 'I saw you with her in the pool' No words were exchanged between them. That was when Corey called me down. Being as though I couldn't answer I tiptoed down and begrudgingly had to stop listening to the conversation.

'Yes? You called.' I said stretching my arms out.

'What were you doing just now' he replied raising his eyebrows' I looked down in shame and shrugged my shoulders.

'Fine I was listening to their convo'

'I figured, Jess is breaking up with him innit?' Surprised, I looked up in disbelief. By my lack of approval, he got his answer and continued. 'Yeah she was planning to since we got back but because of what happened...' he trailed off. All I could do was scratch my neck and nod.

'Ok well who is the someone else she's into? Raising his eyebrows, he had no idea. Sighing defeated, I sat down and put my hands on the counter contemplating on who it might be.

'Why so sad? Do you like her or something?' Looking like a deer caught in headlights I coughed uncomfortably. His eyes shone bright and he began laughing uncontrollably. All I did was walk away and run upstairs. I barged in since it was my room and even though I was hoping to see them still talking. What I saw next was worse. They were kissing, tongue and all. Jess looked up and before she could say anything I stormed out.

I don't even know why I was upset. It wasn't like I knew they had just broken up. It wasn't like we were together. It wasn't like she owed my anything. I couldn't even see properly because the trauma had covered my vision. Hearing my name, I hastened my step. I only stopped when I was a car in my direction. Holding my chest, I fear Jess caught up to me. Great. She took me and sat me down on a bench. 'What happened, why did you take off?' Seriously? 'You're right, stupid question' I nodded and calmed myself down. 'Are you ok though?' apart from eh trauma I guess I am. All I did was nod.

We sat on the bench for 15 minutes before I began talking. 'Why were you kissing him?' she looked up and had a moment of realization. 'Oooh that's why you took off.' I couldn't even refuse the assumption, so she spoke again. 'It was a goodbye kiss. I broke it off with him today.' She was now smiling in relief. I couldn't tell her I knew so I prompted her to go on. 'Ok but why?' 'Well, if I'm being honest, he cheated on me with some girl and that was when I knew he wasn't the one for me.' 'I'm sorry to hear that.' I genuinely was regardless of my feeling for her. I didn't want to ask who she had her eyes on just yet. I wanted it to come up freely.

We walked back to my hose so we could go over what was to happen next. 'Ok, so infiltrate the station is a go' Corey stated. 'Don't say it like that, it's like we're soldiers' Jess said outwardly cringing. I nodded in agreement whilst Justin kept his eyes on Corey. 'Call it what ever you want but now its time to see what else the police has to say about what happened.' Justin remarked as we headed towards the station.
