"Congratulations students, I hope that none of you wish to withdraw from your positions?" She asked as Malfoy and I sat down in front of her desk.

"No Professor, I am so grateful for this opportunity. Thank you very much," I smiled.

McGonagall smiled back, "even though you are new to our school, Miss Samuels, I have met many times with both you and your mother and so I felt that you would be a perfect fit. I also feel that you two working together will be good for both of you and that you will be excellent leaders."

"Thank you Professor," Malfoy spoke softly.

She nodded with a smile and continued to say, "As you two know, you will be sharing a common room and making all of the decisions together. Under normal circumstances, I will alert you of any occasions as they present themselves but there is one event in particular that I will âme you aware of now. Later on in the year, we will be having a ball for all of the 7th and 8th years. So it will be a black and white masquerade dance and you shall be organizing the masks for the students. It represents good overcoming evil and to celebrate our triumphant victory of winning the war. Apart from that, all you need to know now is your password is time turner, the portrait protecting your common room will be Professor Snape on the 5th floor down corridor 4, your password will be changed every month and get a good nights sleep because work will start in full swing as of tomorrow. I will see you both tomorrow, sleep well."

As I walked out of the office, I saw Hermione waiting outside with a slightly worried expression painted on her face. When she saw me, she smiled and gestured for me to come over to her.

"Hey, Hermione?" I said to her as I noticed that Malfoy had walked off.

"Samantha, I just wanted to tell you to be carful around Malfoy. He's not someone that is good to be a-"

"Hermione, what did he do that was so bad? What did he do to deserve your hate? You act as if he killed someone right in front of your eyes," I said but considered the possibility of that being true and regretted saying it.

"He might as well have done that but he did something almost as evil. During the war, Malfoy. . .he was on Voldemort's side," her face held a look of disgust.

It was as if every single shred of pity that I had for Malfoy disappeared in that moment. I wished I knew that before I clapped for him, before I stood up for him in the hall, before I thought he was an innocent and lonely boy.

"I really didn't know Hermione," I whispered, "but thank you for telling me. I'll be careful."

"Just be safe, "she said, giving me a reassuring smile, before walking away.

I started, what seemed like, the year long journey to my common room as so many thoughts were swirling around my head.

Apart from thoughts of Malfoy, thoughts of Hogwarts crawled into my mind as well. As I walked, I noticed my magnificent surroundings. The walls and corridors were illuminated by the warm glow of torches and the carved stone was beautifully crafted.

After what seemed an eternity of walking and thinking, I reached the portrait to see Snape talking to Malfoy. As I got closer I heard what they were saying.

"Mr Malfoy, I really did not expect to see you here," Snape said, lifting an eyebrow.

"Just let me in," Malfoy murmured.

Snape smirked and opened the door while saying, "Oh but Mr Malfoy, I think-" Snape started but before he could get his thought across, Malfoy said, "I don't bloody care what you think," he walked away to God knows where.

After I recovered f on my mild shock, I walked over to the door and went in before it could close. I stepped into the warmly lit common room to find a cosy lounge like area with a warm fire, a light wood coffee table and black leather couches. There were gorgeous ornaments and decorations scattered all wrong the place and blankets over the couches that really made it feel homely.

I walked straight through the room and opened a door that was straight ahead to reveal a magnificent marble bathroom with two sinks and silver taps. On the right of the sinks there was a huge shower and a bath tub right next to it with marble carved scroll like legs.

I walked out again to a door opposite the bathroom, to find a black, silver and green room behind it. It was quite beautiful and I actually really liked it. That had to be his room, so I closed the door and turned around to find another closed door which had to be my room. I opened it and laid my eyes on a beautiful black, gold and red room. I sighed in relief of having a wonderful common room.

The only problem was him.

I closed my door, changed into my pajamas, got into my bed and closed my eyes. At that moment, I hard the door swing open and footsteps outside my room. I then heard the bathroom door open and close. Slowly, my fatigue got a grip on me and fell asleep to peaceful dreams.

I woke up to the sound of my alarm. I switched it off and went out of my room to go and brush my teeth. I stood outside a closed bathroom door 'he must have closed it when he went out last night' I thought and opened the door to see something that I really did not expect.

Malfoy, still in his school robes, staring at the mirror in the bathroom. His tie was was loosely hanging around his neck, his robe was only on one shoulder, the top buttons of his shirt were undone and he supported his weight with his hands on the sink counter.

As I took a closer look and it looks as though he had been crying. His eyes were red and and slightly puffy. What shocked me the most was that he was just staring at himself in the mirror. Just staring.

He hadn't even noticed me come in, so I slowly walked up behind him. I stared at him, his hair was ruffled and there was a tear trail running down his face. I gently put my hand on his shoulder and with this movement, he definitely noticed me. He turned around, causing my hand to drop to my side and me to take a step back.

He gave me an icy glare. Obviously he didn't want me in here but it was my common room too so I could do what ever I pleased. At first I felt sorry for him but then I remembered what Hermione told me and the feeling stopped but I was curious to what was going on with him.

"Malfoy, were you here the whole night?" I asked.

I thought for just a few seconds that I saw his eyes soften. For a moment I thought I might have seen his armor go down and I thought . . . I hoped that maybe I saw a bit of the person I first thought he was. Just a sad, lonely, broken boy needing help but that was all gone in a matter of seconds. Soon his glare returned and, with not a word, he walked out of the bathroom, leaving me with many unanswered questions racing through my mind.
