Chapter 1:

The full brown sack that laid in front of my knees churned my stomach. I picked it up and felt its weight while hearing the sounds of all the coins kissing each other from the sudden movements. The feeling rose from my stomach to the corners of my mouth. I could barely contain myself.

"I...I DID IT!" I threw a fist in the air and then hugged the sack of gold closely to my chest. "I made 5,000 gold!" I giddily fell on my back and rolled on the floor. As I stood up, I told myself, "It's time."

I stepped onto the porch and faced a huge bluish-green door, accentuated by a golden antique knob that lit up like the morning sun. I didn't bother to knock. Instead, I let myself in and called out my arrival. But the front desk was empty.

"Hello?" I walked further inside, "Mr. Hamilton?" I continued to walk inside and explored other rooms but I found the entire building empty.

"Huh...," I thought, "Strange that Town Hall is empty at this time of day...Isn't this where important...Town government things happen? Why wouldn't anyone be here?'

I debated on whether I should just go to the Waterfall Mines in town and just pay off my starter plot tomorrow, but then I realized I didn't trust myself. I knew the second I try to make my way up to the cave is the second I dip into Sonata Tailoring with the excuse of "just looking around." The last time I did that--I stopped to shudder at the thought of the terrible decision. Let's just say, not having enough money to buy chicken feed didn't exactly show hearts. I saved this money for a reason and I'm going to use this money for that reason!

"I guess there's no choice," I told myself, "Time to visit the Mayor's house."

The slope of the hill next to Town Hall tired me out a little bit, but as I walked up the steps that led to the front of the Mayor's house and through the arched, open gateway, I raised my fist. "Wait," I hesitated while also catching my breath a little, "What if he's not home either?" I stood there, frozen for a bit with the thoughts of backing down and going to Sonata Tailoring. Still, I had to try. This was my first time visiting the Mayor in his home. I knocked on the door and waited.

He lived right above Town Hall. The outside walls towered over me with white brick decor and expanded across a huge plot of land that took up the entire corner of the hill above Town Hall. The roof, I thought, was a calming dark turquoise color that reminded me a little bit of the vast sea, also dark and calming.

I knocked again.

No answer still.

Growing ever so impatient, I decided to try the door knob. To my surprise, it was unlocked. I peaked my head inside. I caught a glimpse of the furniture. "Um, hello? Is there anyOOH MY GOSH!" I ran towards the tiny frenzied legs struggling  in the fireplace.

"Mayor Hamilton?!" I quickly grabbed his ankles and began to pull.

"WooAH! Melissa?! Melissa!" His voice echoed through the chimney. He sounded relieved to have heard me barging into his home--which was the opposite reaction from what I expected. He then yelled, "YANK HARDER!"

"I'm trying!" I yelled back while I did my best to use my legs in this situation. I started to feel a loosening action. "Don't worry Mayor Hamilton! I think you're almost--" I suddenly felt light as air until my butt thudded on the floor.  Two tiny brown leather boots were in my hands.

"Damn," I threw the boots aside and went back to the plump struggling figure stuck in his own fireplace. Once again, grabbing his legs, I proceeded to pull with all my might.
