"i assumed you liked cola." you smiled as you walked up to the rusty vehicle, and handed eddie his soda bottle.

"you assumed right." he popped the cap off and took a drink. then, it was time to hit the road again.
-
{time skip to a couple of hours later>>> the two of you basically made small talk, learning the simple things about each other until you got a little more curious}
-

"hey, you could've dropped me off already you know." you told him.

"well you needed a ride to vegas so here I am, don't worry about it." he replied, keeping his eyes on the road.

that got you thinking.
"where were you headed to anyway? you must've had plans before I came along." you questioned.

he seemed hesitant to answer.
"a man couldn't go out for a drive?" he glanced at you.

"come on, tell me what you were really up to. I'm curious." you rested your head against the seat as you looked over at him.

"nothin' exciting, I can tell you that much."

you weren't sure if you wanted to keep questioning him or not, but he intrigued you so you decided to keep trying.

"so I'm guessing like, groceries or something?" you asked.

"let's just say my pops and i got into a little disagreement and I left to get some air." he quickly said.

"oh, I'm sorry about that. don't you think he'll get worried about you? especially since it's been a few hours already?" you quietly asked.

"he couldn't care less about where i am, or who I'm with. it doesn't matter." he slightly shook his head, like he was trying to get rid of whatever was going through his mind.
it stayed silent for a while. you figured he needed a little time to be sure of himself again. maybe the two of you weren't too different after all.

you remembered you were still wearing his hat. you leaned over and put it back on his head. that made him smile.

"so, what's you're life like huh? got a little boyfriend waitin' for you?" he arched his eyebrow.

"im looking for a better life, away from that awful town," you told him, "and no, no lover awaits my presence here, or anywhere for that matter." you chuckled.

"that's good." he paused before realizing what he said.

"i-i mean, it's good you're bettering your life and startin' over." he scratched the back of neck.

"I knew what you meant," you paused, "or did I?" you squinted your eyes.

that made the two of you laugh.

"you should've known this was coming since you asked me so, do you have a girlfriend? wife perhaps?" you grinned.

"i had a girl a while back, but I caught her with some low-life asshole so that ended fast." he told you.

"damn, that's rough. maybe it's just because I don't know the other side of things but, in the time that we've met, I don't understand why she would ever leave." you brushed a piece of hair from your face, staring at him in a daze again.

"who's flirting with who again?" he jokingly looked around.
you softly hit his shoulder.
"shut up."

it felt like you haven't smiled this much in months. eddie almost made you want to stay, but you've dreamt of this moment for so long. you couldn't just let it slip through your fingers. you were halfway there anyway.

it was becoming darker outside with each hour that had passed. you knew the two of you would have to stop and get some rest.

"I didn't realize how long this trip was gonna take, we should stop somewhere." you mentioned.

"there should be a motel nearby, we can stay there for the night." he suggested.

"I don't have a lot of money to waste on a motel, I'll just sleep in here." you told him.
and with that he had already pulled in the motel parking lot.

"too bad y/n, grab your stuff and I'll get us a room." he said before getting out of the truck.

after moments went by, he got a key to a room.

"there's only one bed?" you asked as you walked in the small room.

"you can have it, I'll take the floor. we gotta leave here by 11 tomorrow by the way." he spoke as he grabbed a couple of pillows and a sheet from the bed, and set them on the floor.

you felt bad, but didn't say anything.

the night grew darker and both of you were feeding off of chips and other snacks before heading to bed.

you grabbed the remote from the nightstand beside you and shut the tv off.

"night eddie, see you in the morning." you turned over on your side.

"goodnight y/n."

you heard the sounds of him tossing and turning for almost 10 whole minutes.

you sat up and crawled your way to the end of the bed,
"eddie, get up here." you grabbed his arm and tried to pull him up.

"what?" he slightly sat up.

"just get up here." you sighed.

he got up on his feet, and grabbed the extra pillows and sheet. his hair had already become messy and his bare chest left you in an awe once more.

"you sure?" he asked.

"I don't mind at all. it's the least I could do considering you're willing to take me all the way to vegas."

"thanks." he gave you a gentle smile. the two of you were both looking up at the ceiling, the sound of cars on the nearby highway filled your ears.

you felt his hand softly move across the bedsheet, until it barely met yours.
you slowly lifted your pinky to touch his. within seconds, your fingers intertwined together.

"I don't know your story y/n, or where you came from, but I do know you're a dreamer. it's a pleasure to have met you today." he turned his head to look at you.

"that means a lot eddie, you smiled at him, "I got lucky." you gently closed your eyes and fell asleep with a smile on your face, and your fingers interlocked with his. you both needed a comfort like this, something to keep going, a reminder that there are good people in the world.
